After finding a nice SCAT 1835 with C35 cam I swapped into my '72 Super. Only problem is - it won't idle.
The swap went fairly well but I had to add my Kadrons instead of Webers because the latter were impossible to tune in a Bug body. My Kads were jetted for a 1600 with 130/55 main/idle with 28mm venturis. Valves were set to .005 during an adjustment.
Used my original Bosch distributor with a Pertronix module, wires and coil setup so no points. It does have vacuum advance.
Now, I tried all sorts of things and the engine will fire up just fine but it dies at idle. Played with carbs, played with ignition, even removed all gaskets but one from the mechanical fuel pump to increase pressure - can't get it to idle. I strongly believe it's a carb issue, feels like they simply refuse to feed the engine at idle speed.
Cleaned the carbs out thoroughly, readjust floats to be more even. Tried 1.5 turns from all the way in for the mixture screw. Then tried 2.5. No go.
Any ideas where to go next? It will run if I pump the gas in via throttle but as soon as that gas burns out it dies. _________________ '72 Super Beetle sunroof sedan |

Maybe try posting your question(s) in the "Performance/Engines/Transmissions" forum? _________________ 1971 Standard Beetle — fairly stock / driver
