I posted in Ghia, but cross posting in this forum to see if I get more response.

I found this when taking off the paint in the trunk. 63 Australian Ghia Coupe. Is it a factory markup for RHD?

Never seen one like that, but it could in fact be for "right".

Rechts is right in German so they maybe marked RHD and LHD in that fashion.

As far as I am aware no Ghias were ever made in Australia so all were imported. Not all Ghias were made in Germany however with production in some other countries.

Anyway it looks far too elaborate a marking to be used in production. The more I look at it, it looks like some sort of owner applied artwork.

it does look a German font. The metalwork is pretty symmetrical so I figured they just slapped a R on with a brush so they knew what chassis to deck it to Smile

PO definitely did a lot of repairs on the car and it's been in a front end bang at some time, but it doesn't really look as if its ever been back to bare metal, especially in this area, so I'm still leaning towards factory.

anyway, it's gone now!
