I am pretty sure I am going to order a set of these for my 65'. Anyone using these that can give me some real world experience?

I have a set of Vredestein Sprint Classic 185/70 R15's on my 67 and I really like them. I'd buy them again for sure. They ride great and seem to be firmly planted on the pavement, at least for my driving style. I run 20 psi in front and 30 psi in back.

I bought that size because they're very similar to the overall height of a stock tire, so the speedometer is accurate. They're slightly wider than stock tires, but they don't rub the fenders or the chassis at all. Being a little wider than stock, I think they look good on the car and fill the wheel wells a bit more than a stock tire does. My suspension, steering, and ride height are completely stock.

I got black walls because I have Empi knockoff 5 spoke chrome rims, so I didn't want white wall tires. My car has a stock 1600dp from a 74 and I don't drive the car aggressively, so I don't know how the tires would really handle during aggressive driving. But I'm very happy with them.

On my daily driver I drove them as 155 SR 15 for some years but then switched to Toyo 310 which I like better.

I noticed that you are in Michigan. Are you aware that these are summer tires? I guess they would be okay as long as you aren't driving on them at or below freezing temps. See this Tire Rack product description:

But I use Vredestein winter tires, as these are the only ones for 15" beetle rims available in Europe.

on my 2nd set on stock 63 beetle (It is a daily driver and does long drives). Happy with them, although side wall is fairly flexible. First set was on for 5 years and still had life.

Of course, i am not carving corners with a 1200 40hp engine.

Do fine in rain

They look right and drive well

one more thing went 165 first time but switched to 155 (better fit for spare)

I have 155s as well and noticed my speedo reads a bit slow compared to gps speed. With 165s the speedo matched the gps speeds

That seems odd. 155s have a shorter circumference so should rotate slightly farther than a 165 over the same distance travelled. So the speed indicated on the speedo should be slightly higher than it would show using 165s. A 155 will rotate more times over the measured mile than a 165 will and the speedo would interpret this as going faster.

I had 165s on my bug years ago and liked them. At the time these and Michelin xzx seemed to be the among the best choices for a bug.

You'll like them.

Vredestein Sprint Classic 165/70 R15's on 5.5" Porsche wheels on my '65. I'm very happy with them.

I probably have it backwards then. It's about 3-4 mph off from the GPS speed. I have the Michilen X classic tires
