Hey, everyone,

My VW’s Solex 30 PICT-2 carb have a lot of play on the throttle shaft.

Fortunately, I found a NOS Solex 30 PICT-2 Carb.

Nevertheless, I found some differences between the two carbs:

Difference 1
Old carb:

New carb:

Difference 2

I must say the old carb ref is 211 129 025 A (I think it is originally from a VW T2); new carb ref is 113 129 029 A

What the function of the different parts?

Thanks

Definitely a non-USA carb there. The 1285cc single port engines of the late 60s had a de-tuned carburetor, they lack the power fuel system. In the USA that would only have been the 30 PICT-1 for model year 1966 which was the only years the 1300SP was sold here. But it carried on through 1970 in Europe and the carburetors continued to have this deleted feature, including after they changed to the 30PICT-2.

What is the Modification State Number on this carburetor? Stamped at the base flange next to the throttle arm, a number like VW 237-1

I really don't know a whole lot about the 30PICT-2s for non-USA markets. The ones intended for the 1500SP engines of 1968-69 had the first emissions modification done to the carburetor, they added the metering screw, and for the USA, they locked it once it was set. Making this kind of a pain in the ass to deal with . I've heard that on non-USA 30PICT-2s that metering screw was easier to deal with. That is the screw at the bottom you circled.

Oh, what is the Power Fuel System...

Thanks for the excellent explanation.

Modification number is precisely 237_1.

The carb is brand new (NOS).

Should I adjust the mettering srew?

How is the adjustment made?

Thanks

Thanks

I've heard that you can adjust metering screw on non-USA PICT-2s, but the intention from the factory was that it was set, leaving you with just the normal idle mixture screw to set up your idle. The big issue is on used carbs, you often could not properly clean the carburetor when it gets full of gunk inside.

If the idle sets up good, then no need to mess with the metering screw.

The diagram in the service manual is the USA 1500SP version with the power fuel system, but check out the note about Item 27 at the bottom.

Again, this was intended for the 1300SP engine and I probably wouldn't want to use to use it on larger engines.

Yes, the idle is good. I will leave this screw out of the tuning.

Thanks a lot.
