I haven't been in the VW world long at all.
My wife has always wanted a Karmann Ghia.
So after a couple years searching for a 62 Ghia, her must have, I ended up buying what I thought was a good starting point 68, since I couldn't find an elusive 62.
So I'm plugging away at a restoration on the 68 after a few failed attempts with bodyshops but she still has me on the look out for a 62.
Is it just because I'm looking for one that I can't find it or are they harder to find?
I have ran across 2 or 3 that were either burned badly or in the middle of some crazy looking rebuild that I had no business trying to finish.
I have searched for this answer but find no mention of 62 Ghias being rare or sought after.
What's the deal? |

'62s aren't particularly rare (over 23K built) or especially sought after, but production numbers are a bit higher for model years just after that, until you get to '72-'74 when the numbers dropped off.
Is there some sentimental attachment to a '62? Expanding your search to include earlier or later models ('60 thru '65 are very similar) might make it easier to find a suitable car.
These early Ghias are all over 60 years old now and many have not survived the ravages of time. You'll need to be patient, especially if only looking for one particular year...nice ones are just not that common any more.
For a bit of perspective, I looked diligently for several years before finding both the Ghia and Beetle that I have now...and that's also here in CA, where decent rust-free cars are easier to come by than in many other areas. _________________ '63 Ragtop (current)

Here are a couple of other resources to check
Oldbug.com
Randy Carlson is a broker representing some very nice VW's. No Ghia's at this time but its worth checking from time to time or getting in touch with him.
https://oldbug.com/sales.htm
Bring a Trailer
Ghia's have been showcased more and more on the platform lately.
You can set a search so you can be notified when Ghia's go up for auction.
https://bringatrailer.com/
The prices on both of these site are usually a bit higher than you might find privately but on the plus side the cars are usually well vetted. |

Scanned thru the ghias for sale in the classifieds. Did not see an advert for a ""WTB" 1962 K. Ghia". Did I miss it or have you not posted an advert???
If the latter, get one up ASAP. Could be three VW owners within 100 mile radius of you with that old 1962 Ghia sitting out in the back yard or storage that needs to go, but too busy to put up the advert. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |
