| Buying tires is a royal pain. I had a pair of the Petlis 165/80-15 tires on the front of my dune buggy and was satisfied with them so I am leaning toward them. But I see Thunderer also offers a 165/80 tire as well. anyone out there running them? I just did my torsion bars and my tires are REALbad now, weather checking, so I need to do something quick.I use my car as daily driver so some of the real cool expensive tires are out of the question. thanks for any and all reply. |

Two years ago I got a set of 165/80 15s for the front of my street Buggy. This summer I attempted to get another set of the same for my sand rail. The closest they could come was 185/65 15.
First it was 12" tires we couldn't get so I switched to 13" rims (Toyota and Daihatsu). Then they couldn't get 13" tires so I went to 14" rims (Rabbit and early Jetta). We all know where that ended up... needing to buy 15" rims so I have 15" rims (Jetta and Bay window Bus)! Now 15" tires are hard to find... Jetta, 944 and Street Buggy.

I've run Thunderer on a 74 Beetle, a 97 Jeep, and have a pair on my Corvair Rampside.
They are cheap tires, and I dont expect them to last (the Beetle and Jeep are no longer mine). |
