I'm so tired of seeing stupid items for sale on TV that I thought we could have some fun coming up with some of our own. I have 2:

1) Training wheels for a tricycle which can mount on the front wheel or the 2 rear wheels. Just picture this in your mind.

2) A fake self-adhesive rear wiper for your vehicle that doesn't have one. I got this idea from waiting at a traffic light and observing the vehicle in front of me. It literally looked like his rear wiper was just stuck on in the middle of the rear window.

I worked in R&D for large soap company; primarily my job function there was to invent and validate new test methods to assay for our pharmaceutical ingredients.

However, I did "invent" quite a few things non-related to the business, but I felt none of them would bring in enough $$$ to warrant any patent protection, find a manufacturer and marketer, etc. Pretty much all of these were made, and then used by me.

VW spark plug removable access panel (developed about 1976)

VW convertible mirror extension

Long-handled spark plug boot tool

Bike rack modifications to allow carrying of 4th bike

Sink water bottle "wedge" for sink to readily fill bottles

Doorstop extender

Wall-mount cordless telephone retainer strap (obsolete now, no wall-mounted cordless phones)

Under-counter kitchen TV (using "lazy susan" )

Telephone/answering machine in cabinet (Kitchen "hidden" phone)

"Eutectic" temperature dinner plates

Kids' baseball training batter's board/throwing board with painted footprints

Coffee bag singles (these exist now, my dad told me in early 1960s that was a dumb idea).

"Switched" outside light when such light was controlled by switch in far bedroom)

Dual shower head

Shower door spacers (to allow installation of standard-size shower doors)

All-in-one remote control (rubber band was first used)

Water bottle stand for vehicle

Horse fan pulls

Child-height garage opener extra button

Dashboard garage opener button

Underhood storage baskets

Propane cylinder carrier/holder

above-ground swimming pool water hose clamp

Swimming pool solar cover retainer

Plug-in air freshener with built-in timer

Hot tub access hole to R&R heating element

VW oil strainer stud retainer (I don't remember what I did for this !)

Pool skimmer cover retainer

Baseball glove identification tags

Glove box organizer

Bent hasp latches for cross-bed tool carriers

Automated above-ground pool water filler using buried copper tubing

disposal stopper “handle”

long (10 inch) 10mm combination wrench

External filter unit for hot tub/spa

Bicycle tire valve protectors

We have one of those, we call it a weather rock. Way more reliable than those overpaid clowns on the evening news.

i was at a flea market years ago and saw an alarm clock with a built in can opener Laughing

I just tried a search and didn't come up with anything like the one I saw which was a legit alarm clock with a built in can opener

I remember my girlfriend at the time saying "could you imagine hitting snooze and losing a finger?"

this one looks nothing like it, but it's proof that something so ridiculous exists

I’ll be visiting the Museum of Failure in Brooklyn after final exams. Some failure’s inspire great successful designs. I wish I could book a class trip there, but there’s too much curriculum to cover, and money is tight in my district. Keep looking at problems as they lead to great products. If you see a solution don’t be discouraged as you are in the right direction.

Define stupid invention ideas. I see a lot of ridiculous inventions that make an ass ton of money for a hot minute. Then there is stupid inventions that just don’t work and get scrapped.

Some companies currently make a version of the Thigh Master. The Thigh Master looked ridiculous but made a lot of money. The pet rock is ridiculous but made a ton of money. I call that a success for the people who made them and the people who market such stuff. Who are these people that buy this stuff?

Ron Popeil made bank on hair paint for balding heads. Shocked I call that a success.

Stupid is stupid whether it makes money or not! When they make money, its because stupid people buy them.

Back in the 80s Warshawsky/J.C. Whitney had a fake cell phone that I believe was about 10 bucks. They called it the "CelluClone". That was stupid.

You mentioned pet rock. I was floored when I saw stupid Garfield cats stuck to rear windows, but someone made a fortune.

What about "Baby on Board" stickers? Who determined that baby lives were more important than older kids or adults???

If you're going to mention stupid stickers, how about those stick figure "families" you typically see on the back windows of mommy soccer vehicles?
