Some do and some don't....I like the Bruce plate as it's a simpler installation for me, or maybe a more elegant solution in my mind.
I would say the plates work as well as the bolts surprisingly, just prefer the bolt on style retainers over the plates. (Don't like the silicone or sealant method as oppsoed to just using a gasket.) _________________ T1 IRS Rebuild Book on Lulu.com

I installed one last December(2024) without removing the .040" and no problems so far. Just backed out the bolts a bit. _________________ 1970 Beetle Turbo 2109cc MS II EFI, W/M Injection, Intercooler, FORD Wasted Spark Coilpack, 48lb. Injectors. |

I just installed one the other week and didnt have to back the studs out, studs just barely protrude past the ends of the nuts. so plenty enough _________________ "how am i supposed to torque the rear wheel nut to 250 ft lbs??? " - clonebug

If you don't machine the nose cone, does it put too much stress on the rear rubber mounts, maybe causing them to break sooner? I have never used one of these retainers, but I like the idea.

The gearbox builder I used, Bears Motorsport, over here in the UK, fits the plate but uses sealant rather than gaskets either side of the plate, he does not machine the gearbox or nose cone. _________________ Ancient vehicles and vessels

from what I read , not machining the nosecone just moves the nosecone 1mm forward which "moves" your transaxle & engine 1 mm back. mines in a Baja with solid mounts and no tins, so who gives shit about 1mm _________________ "how am i supposed to torque the rear wheel nut to 250 ft lbs???
