|
|
I am going to be checking out the local German auto salvage yard in the next couple days. I drove by the other day and saw at least two Westies but not sure on the years. There are usually five or six bays also. I thought I would see if anyone needs anything particular while I'm out perusing. I know some of you are in very sparse VW areas. I don't know if I can get anything to complicated but if you need that simple part that you just can't find (interior, trim, camping tidbits, easy unbolted parts, etc.) let me know and I'll keep my eye out. Oh, and let me know what would be your top price for the part you need so I don't get stuck with something I don't need. _________________ Jasan C.

Hiya Jasan,
Just out of curiosity, what yard are you planning to visit?

Hey Mike
It's German Auto Salvage out in Boring. I went out there this past Saturday but they weren't open yet at 10:00 when I got there. _________________ Jasan C.

You got me thinking Jasan. There are lots of little things. I worked in the Lakeland-Auburndale area and heard of a VW salvage yard but did not get to go. _________________ 71 Westfalia

If nothing else, take some pictures & post 'em. For some reason, I always enjoy seeing good VW junkyard shots. kind of depressing, but kind of cool...Everything I need is too bulky to ship, but thanks for the offer... _________________ <---Air Cooled Search & Rescue Team - STICKERS & T-shirts for sale!

most of what I need is too bulky to ship as well. I do, however, need the Driver's side under engine tin for a '79 California 2.0 (Transporter) engine. (any condition is okay). It's the one with the convoluted exhaust system and unusual tin on the bottom. If you run into that I'd be much obliged and will, of course, reimburse your expenses.
Otherwise, you make a very generous offer and I thank you kindly, Mark |

If you were to find a really cherry 79 CA exhaust system (funky heater boxes and all) and the complete 79 CA FI system, let me know.
Those spare parts are difficult to find here in New England.
I can pick them up from you. I will be out there in October. |

Jasan, if any of those Westys are '74-75's, could you check out the rear cabinets for me? The closet against the window and the overhead. Mine are missing .. still. Just check the condition and pricing for now.
Don't bother with the U-Pull-It in Damascus when you're out in that area -- I was there yesterday, there was one Bay on it's way out and a couple of gutted Vanagons. I *just* managed to get the swaybar off the Bay before it got hauled off to the "crusher" area. (using quotes 'cuz I didn't *see* a crusher, but it's the next stop) |

Yes Jasan, things that I have looked for in the catalogs and couldn't find.
1. A cap for my water fill on the sink(I cover it with a glue on pvc pipe cap).
2. The little spring with the flap on my electrical hookup (mine hangs, drives me nuts).
Let me know when your leaving. I've been hot and heavy on my 71 here lately. New engine and cut the pass. quarter panel, battery area out and all new panels from bus depot. Also have my dash apart fixing a bunch of mickey moused wiring. Its amazing, Someone should have kept their hands in their pockets. _________________ 71 Westfalia

What a service you are doing!! I need the plastic covers that go over the rear hatch hinges (left and right, up in the headliner) for my 78 transporter. _________________ Where Have All the Horses Gone?

OK just got back from the VW boneyard. Here is what I found and didn't find.
VWBusMan1, there was a '79 Westy in the yard but no engine tin that you were looking for.
Randy, sorry no exhaust and I forgot to ask about the FI. If you are going to be here in October get in touch and I'll take you out there or give you directions.
Tristessa, no '74-'75 Westies but that '79 interior was in real good shape. See the photos in my gallery. He wanted $300 for the whole interior. Even the material is nice!
Chachi, there were a couple of early bay Westies with the Z-bed. I didn't ask the price he wanted for them and didn't notice any Jettas but wasn't paying to much attention to the wassers.
Rccbusfreak, I got the whole electrical assembly if you want it. $20 dollars + shipping. The flap that you need is actually rivited to the housing so I couldn't get it alone. If you don't want it, no problem, I'm sure I can sell it in the classifieds. The sink cabinet was gone though, sorry.
L-jetronic, there were a few sets of the hinge covers but they were cracked and starting to turn to that wonderfull powder that these plastic parts always do.
So, sorry to those I couldn't help but if anyone sees anything in the photos in my gallery that you would be interested in let me know and I can check them out for you. _________________ Jasan C.

The green one? It's a '79 but that's what I thought about it also. The body is actually pretty much rust free. The rear suspension has been cut out though and the front beam is gone. If someone needed a good body this would be a great candidate. Oh if I were a rich man. _________________ Jasan C.

Man, I've seen people stay in worse. Looks like you could drive a few of those out. I messed up though Jasan, that white bus with no wheels. On the back lower rear(side running lights). I need those to! GO BACK GO BACK! _________________ 71 Westfalia
