Can a pan from a '71 Super be used on a '74 Super?

i thought the '71 and '72 models were identical but not the later models. It may be some other change between them instead of the pans. Sorry couldn't help you too much Rolling Eyes

71-71 would have different seat tracks, and the 74 and later have different front strut asseblies and lower control arms/ball joints... but I think the mounting tabs the control arms bolt too are the same.

So I think that it would work as long as you put the 74 front end parts on it and have some early seats.

71-72 do have different seat tracks and those pans are NLA, the 73+ have a different length shift rod and a different nose cone on the tranny, 71-73.5 have the "1302" struts as apposed to the later 73.5 "1303" struts
that's about all i can think of that are different....

good point.... I forgot to mention the change in the nosecone /tranny mount.

As far as the 71-72 being NLA... Last I knew they were still being made.

But I think he is considering swapping to a good condition complete pan/chassis?

Maybe not though? Confused

Thanks for the info. I have a rusted out/basket case '74 SB convertible and have available a pan from a '71 SB that has been restored. My thought is that it would a good way to jump start the restoration.

If it is a non vert pan, you will need to cut off the jack points...

The mounting tabs on the 71 are lower down than on the 74 and later models. So, the geometry would be incorrect if you tried to fit 74 front suspension to a 71 pan. However, as a note, it can be done the other way round (fit early suspension to late chassis) as the later chassis' have the mounting points for both types of suspension.

Thanks PJMS for that very important information. I was not sure if the tabs were the same or not.

It might be possible to cut them off the 74 pan and transfer them to the 71?

Or like you say use the 71 struts and parts if they are usable.
