saw a post like this in the ghia section and i thought i'd pose the question over here in the dirt. does your wife/girlfriend hate your baja or off road car? i've been married almost 20 years and i've owned my 65 baja for about 15 years. at first she wasn't too excited about it but she understood me anyway, she says it kept me out of the bars and chasing ho's. she grew up w/ a honda trail 70 so she has been pretty cool about it. but it has been several years since she has gone for a spin it the dirt. i will give her credit for spotting our ghia in a nearby town, and it was her idea to buy it so tell me-- does the old ball and chain hate your off-roader???? _________________ blank |

No, not at all. As a matter of fact she liked my thing so well that I gave it to her.

The ex-wife never cared for it. She's gone but the car's still here. |

My wife really likes my/our baja. I took her offroading in it for the first time last weekend and other than the mud going everywhere she really enjoyed it. |

Mine was pretty skeptical about it until we took our first long run with some really good people out there, and now she's hooked. In fact, it's hard to get away for a boy's trip anymore...
And our 4 year old girls love it! |

I have had my Thing for as long as I have known my wife. (16 years) Found both of them in high school and wouldn’t trade either for the world. She supports (or tolerates) my VW habit as long as it doesn’t interfere with anything I have to do that she thinks has a higher priority. So overall she has been great about it.
On a side note, yesterday when I was flipping through some web sites and she was looking over my shoulder, I heard “Oh my god! What is that?” I was looking at a picture of a nicely restored T34 Karmann Ghia and she thought it was the coolest car ever. Now I am thinking I need to get her one to replace that Del Sol she has.

She doesn't hate it. She hates the money that goes into it. She used to be embarassed because everyone stares when you drive it done the street. Now when people look she waves. I've never taken her offroading in it because I usually go with my buddy. I just asked her right now and she says,"Let's go!" |

My wife loves our car. notice i said our car. she has worked her whole life up until our son was born and helps me work on it all the time. She also gave me the go on our trailer so our son would have a warm place to sleep when we go to the desert. No complaints here. |

My wife tolerates the VW's in general. She'll have nothing to do with going offroading. I think she likes the attention the baja and my "mystery machined" 66' splitty get, cause if I say "lets take the westy" I get a dirty look but if I say the baja or the 66' its always "okay!" _________________ Markus |

Actually Brad, it's funny you asked because after this season that is my plan. i just can't decide if i want to have a new fuel cell built to replace the one i have but weld mounts for a seat to the top of it or relocate the cell to the rear shelf in the car and put in a small bench. i might even put in a new cell and a bench. i think that's probably the plan. i just have to take some measurements. i might be able to buy a cell in the right size and save some fab work. who makes metal fuel cells? i think Jaz does. |

baja5, you might consider one of those "narrow" beard type suspension seats. they are about 19" wide. put in the center unless you're planning on an additional family member in the future......... hence the bench seat. _________________ blank |

Additional family members are a definate possibility, also it would be nice to have a place to put a cooler. I thought about putting in 2 baby beard seats but as fast as my son is growing i think a bench would work out better. |

Before I was in my accident I was tenative about putting my girls in the backseat of my baja. I would never let them ride without belts period. Now I can only take one passenger it seems pointless to put anyone in the back. There is no room. At any rate, with the help of a friend I have gotten closer than ever to having a project completed and my wife is proud. I have a very understanding and supportive wife. I take care of her and she lets me get guns and baja parts and she listens attentively when I talk her ear off about both. I found if I just find a way to include her she pretty much lets me go for it. |

We have twin 4 year olds and this works really well for us... Half the time when I check the mirror they are crashed out back there, through the whoops. They are still small enough we use their car seats strapped to the bench at this point.
Sweet car, Baja5.

My wife used to HATE my Baja. Now, after paint and interior I think she secretly digs it. As for off roading, she is still 100% sissy la la and doesn't like it in the least.

My Wife loves our hobby but I think is supprised on how much money I spend on it. We have a motorhome, 3 bikes and 3 Quads plus a Jeep and now the Baja. Needless to say she is great. She has a Quad and the motorohome for comfort so I have not heard a single complaint. BTW she loves the Desert and the people we meet out there! _________________ All it takes is a little imagination, some mechanical ability, and neighbors who mind their own business
