|
|
Hi--
Anyone had any luck finding a gas strut alternative to the front hood springs on the 74 Super? I had my springs fixed for a while, but one of the springs has bent again, and it is throwing the whole front hood out of whack. I know I could search the classifieds, but I am exploring other alternatives. Any other ideas are also welcome.
Thanks for any help you can offer. |

Mine did the same thing. Both of the springs were bent. All I could do was remove them and straighten them. Except that it works well for a while. One has already began to bend again. |

all of the sources which i've found for gas hood-struts only list supers to '72, which u probably already know if you've looked into this for any amount of time.
i'm not sure how the mounts and related dimensions differ between the early and later years, so i dont' know exactly how you would go about adapting them to ur '74. but it reasons that with a little creativity and some fabrication it could be done.
for wut it's worth, hot vw's always has quite a few ads which offer the struts for $15 or so... it's worth checking out. or, i could be mistaken, but i think i got mine from mooreparts.com, they were pretty cheap. good luck |

The only problem is the offset in the hood to the body mount. The hood mounts are narrower than the body. Not a problem if you could fab up a peice to allign the two. |
