I just took out the rear torsion bars and bump stops because I am doing a bag kit and it is not touching the ground in the rear like most of the pictures show WHY?? What else do I need to do I have plenty of clearance to go lower.

On an IRS there really is not much of a point to notch the spring plates. About all you can do to an IRS car after what you have already done is go about 1/2 lower. Its not really worth cutting the plates for that small of a drop. Actually, Airkewlds Ghia with the custom IRS pan is the only bagged VW ive seen lay rocker panels on the ground...Well, Except for the Kustom Koach Werks 51, but that car has a totally custom bag setup too. I thought about notching my plates but with the body back on and engine in, it will be much lower than any bug that isnt bagged. I should be close to laying Oil sump.

Ill post a pic of what a spring plate is

I took the bump stops off and it is still touching there too so whats up with that. 1 INCH out of the spring plate isnt going to give me 3 inches of lowering height is it?

Unless there is something I dont know about Airkewlds kit, the lowest you will get the pan is about 2 inches from the ground. Of course thats how low my pan is with no body and no engine. Im pretty sure the engine will be laying on the pavement.

Do you mean that the trailing arms are touching the stopper on the rear shock tower? If so then the only alternative I see is Notching the hell out of your plates and cutting the stop on the tower off to keep the trailing arm from stoping. Doing that should get you lower but I dont know about doing all that man... Theres nothing a sawzall can do that a welder and some time cant fix though!
