Are 13/15 window deluxes considered microbusses or sambas? Or are they something in the middle? _________________ '67 13 Window

I know it's a deluxe, but I was just looking in the archives under type 2 production figures. There are microbusses listed (standards right?) and sambas. Do all deluxe figures get mixed in with micros or samba deluxes?

I think they are Sambas but lots of people dissagree... _________________ "Saying what we think gives us a wider conversational range than saying what we know."

I read somewhere that Samba is translated as "special model" So even though the bus doesn't have the sunroof it is still a samba because it has the special features other type 2's didn't such as the clock, trim, nice interior, extra windows in the back etc.
The Microbus (called the station wagon in the USA) was the middle model in terms of niceties. Usually two tone paint, headliner, fancy seats.
Kombi was the base model. A panel with windows, as my friend once said. _________________ Gary

I went to dictionary.com to see if I could find some profound wisdom...no luck.
sam·ba ( P ) Pronunciation Key (smb, säm-)
n.
A Brazilian ballroom dance of African origin.
Music in duple meter for performing this dance.
So apparently, if your bus has rhythm...its a samba. |

I never use the term samba for any bus. I always figured samba meant the same thing as bus. a 13/15 window would just be considered a deluxe microbus. They're the one's that people would buy to say they own a deluxe but didn't have the money to get one with the skylights and sunroof. _________________ Don't take life too serious....you won't get out of it alive! |

That's the reason i have a 13 window "deluxe". No mula. I just recently started gathering the deluxe pieces for my bus. Previous owner (one of many) made it a Cal Look Bus. No deluxe trim, clock, jailbars, etc.. I have most of the deluxe trim, clock, and now i'm searching for jailbars. After it's all said and done, i could of just saved up and bought a 21 or 23. Then again, not having the rear corner, skylights, and sunroof, is ok too. _________________ 67 Ghia coupe, Retired military.

And you know what the kicker is? back in the day, customers didn't save that much money by not opting for the skylights & sunroof. I've got the dealer's window sticker for my bus. Its listed as a deluxe station wagon, can't remember the price...but in the options list it says no skylights & sunroof (-)$150. That hundred & fifty bucks would've gone a long way... |
