my baja isn't finished yet so i havent done anything about starting a group. it should be on the road in 'bout a month but i figured i would hold off untill the weather warms up a bit to put together a group. the group will be open to anyone who is going to be in the barstow, lucerne or stoddard area tearing around the desert in anything that goes fast off road.
if anyone has input about what would make a good group feel free to put it out here. if you are in one of those areas and want to talk to other people about going on day/weekend trips speak up please!
there are plenty of events around these areas so the group should be a cool place for people driving in for the event to talk to/meet up with locals that know the area well and can give good tips for camping sites, parties
what to watch out for....whatever
i am fairly new to socal and live outside barstow, i am definately looking for people to get together with. this is my first baja and i want to have as many baja owners in the group as i can find but it will accept anyone with a desert ride and a good attitude. |

I live in the palm springs area but would be more than willing to drive out to the barstow area for weekend trips or shows or whatever. This is also my first baja so I would like to meet other baja owners and hang out with them and learn new things. |

ok then, in the next week or two i will get on yahoo groups and start it up....i am thinking pics of your ride in one section...pics of your build in another...and trip pics in a folder with your screen name on it so we know what type of interest everyone has and get ideas from eachother about what we are doing with out cars in the future.
now lets talk club name....ideas???
i think it wouldnt be a bad idea to have a seperate yahoo id for the group so you could fill in all the info on your profile with type of vehicle, general location and what kind of off road experience you are looking for.
i know we may have everything from young extreme smack talking hard core addrenaline junkies to the family weekend rides with kids and wife riding along.....i want this group to have something for everyone and give everyone the chance to network and find other off roaders like yourself so you can go off road with like minded people and have a good time regardless of how extreme you want to get.
i want to emphasise that, this group will be for families and newbies/inexperienced people as well as the extreme, addrenaline crazed thrill junkies that live in or travel to this area.
i have found (on the net) a couple of good places to visit in this area including everything from petroglyphs and the mansen cabin to MDR race courses so members will be encouraged to share cool camping sites around race courses and other desert oddities they come across that they think others will enjoy.
hope to turn this into something real and have a good time with all the people out there who share a love of desert running. |

Wow, thats awesome you have this all thought out. I agree with you on having the club for everyone. For a name... I dont really have any ideas but im sure a couple will come to mind. Thats cool you have found some good places to go, I will check some things out and look for some places. I have a book thats all about backroads and what not in so cal so that will help out a lot. Im down to pretty much go anywhere, as long as I get to drive my bug I am a happy camper. keep me updated on the yahoo groups thing. |

Gentleman the weekend of Jan. 1 in So. Cal "Glamis", you will see $10 million dollars of off road cars on one hill " Competition Hill". The place is off 78 a little east of Brawley Calif. Note get there early, there might be $25 million on the hill. This is one place you WILL NOT GET LOST. GLAMIS CALIF. Terry Sandwars. |

my baja is a 73 standard, i hope to have it done in about a month.
i am going to be running a 1835 with full flow oil filtering and a 96 plate cooler/fan combo, feeding it with a single zenith 32ndix.
002 trans sitting in the urethane mount, thats the one that tilts it 'bout 10 degrees to keep my linkage in the tunnel.
3x3 arms and bus cv joints
i am stuck with ball joints up front for a while so i went with thing spindles and arms, the front end is not going to be anything special and will pretty much suck till i chop it off and tube my front end to hold a king pin beam.
class 11 roll cage
not sure how i am going to go on the shocks, i know what i want but will have to see what the budget is looking like when it is time to buy.
tires will be 31 10.50 in the back
right now i am working on the cage then it will be time for some paint, i will let you know how the el cheapo sprayer works out. |

I'm in too! I live in the Antelope Valley near Edwards Air Force Base. I am down for some fun with a VW-based vehicle group so we have common breakdown spare parts and stuff.
My bug needs some work right now, and I have a Baja project in the back yard that needs work, I really would like a group meet to plan on so I can get my act together. Warmer weather is taking it's time getting here! _________________ "The government solution to a problem is usually as bad as the problem." - Milton Friedman |
