I am working on putting an 02 transmission in a type 1 pan. I understand the length of the shift rod needs to be modified. Is there a dimension that the rod needs to be shortened ? I was planning on using an adjustable end so it didn't have to be perfect. Am I on the right track ?

Make sure that the transmission and shifter are in neutral when making the measurements..
