|
|
I have been thinking about buying a set of 5.5x15 Empi sprints for my 63 split. The Split is completely original.
Just wanted to check that they will they just bolt on, and there will be no issues with clearance or rubbing ?
What tyre size are people running with these ?
thanks
Miles. |

I believe the sprint stars will bolt right on... and probably 165s or 175s all around would work well. _________________ Sounding like a broken record as to why You should be measuring protein during harvest in order to better your agronomic practices. |

Dam David why are you recomending under sized tyres? clearence probs?
5 lug sprints with 205/75/15's allround would be my recomendation unless other know of clearence probs due to width and offset of sprints.
Oh i spoted your in the UK run 185R15's
The repro 5 lug sprints (flat4) are alloy rather than the originals in steel.

I had 5.5 x 15 lemmertz sprints on my 67 bus a few years back. The fronts i machined off the welds holding the centres in to the rim and flipped the centre round to make the wheel more inset. This gave me a front wheel that sat inside the front wheel arch. I didn't have any problems with the inner edge rubbing on full lock either. The bus was lowered.
At the rear i think you will struggle with a standard reduction box set up and a stock 5.5 lemmertz sprint as they are quite offset. I had IRS from a super beetle (1302 / 03 for us europeans) which gave me a narrower rear track allowing the wheels to sit just right at the back too.
Take a straight edge across your rear brake drum then measure from that to the inner lip of the wheel arch. take these measurements with you when you are loking at wheels and be armed with the info you need. Remember that the tyre will more than lokely be wider than the wheel by a little.
There's no saying you can't modify the steel lemmertz sprints to fit your application. You could even cut out the centres and graft into a 4.5" rim i suppose. Just get an engineer to align and weld them back up. Jobs a good un.
Of course if you are talking about repro sprints all this is to be ignored but then who would want copies anyways? There mean't to be steel. Steel wheels rule.
WANTED: ONE 5.5 X 15 LEMMERTZ SPRINT STAR TO COMPLETE A SET. |
