FULL SHOT OF THE NEW CABINET WITH SOME OF THE WILSON ART SKINS. ALSO CHECK OUT MY FIRST TIME ATTEMPT WITH CUTTING MOULDING. I WAS PRETTY STOKED WITH HOW IT CAME OUT. ALSO I'M GOING TO FINISH THE COUNTER TOP WITH ANODIZED ALUMINIUM (PRETTY EXPENSIVE)

NO I'M NOT FLIPPING ANYONE OFF. IF YOU LOOK CLOSELY YOU'LL SEE MY CUTTING FLAW. CUTTING THE WILSON ART STUFF IS PRETTY DIFFICULT. TAKE YOUR TIME IF YOU'RE CONSIDERING DOING IT.

Hey there Hippo,
Your photos look like lots of hard work. I am no expert but I think an easier way to do the laminating if you have the right tools is to apply the lam. with the end overlapping the edge and then run a router accross the edge. That's how they get those nice beveled looking edges too. Same method to cut out an opening. Cover the opening and then remove the material with a router. Where in the city are you? I wiork in the Mission.
Good luck man,
Mike

Mike,
That is exactly how you should do it. Wink

Yea I know I just didn't have the killer tools (i.e. router). Plus I live in an apartment that I share with my navel lint and thats a tight fit Laughing .... Someday I dream of having enough space to apply your advice. But yes you're right the router is the way to go. My buddy is going to let me use his dremel for the shelf.

this is the tool i used. Which worked out pretty well. I'm using moulding to cover up my edges. Once the moulding is on it has a good presentation.

I've been told that you can use any contact adhesive but I chose what the Mnfg of the product recomends. Granted it's probably nothing more then standard contact adhesive. But this is what I used.

http://www.wilsonart.com/adhesives/products/contactadhesives.asp
I used the WA600.

Shit is really stong. If you use it make sure you apply 2 coats with 7 to 8 min intervals. Lay it down and you can either do it the smart way - cut the material close to the edge and then take a router to it. Or do it the hard way. Cut a template (or what you think is close to exact size). Then frustrate your self with trying to cut within the size of 1/4 in moulding.... Shocked Shocked Shocked .... So do it the smart way - see tractoman's instruction.

Good man, I'm working at a millwork shop, and for part of the past week I've been the contact king! Nice to see you did it right (at least as far as the adhesive went)!! Very Happy

You can cut the laminate with a tablesaw to get it close to the proper size, but the router gives a really nice edge, very quickly.

I think a cheap router is 35$ at your local hardware warehouse.
Your cabinet looks alright to me. What is the flaw you speak of?

I used a total of 2 coats of laminate type contact cement and 4 coats of poly
on top. just waiting for the final coat to cure before gluing on the edging.
