I am interested to see how the diesel works out for you. I heard on the radio this morning about the pending oil shortage, what with China and India soon to be competing for more oil. So I began thinking about a diesel engine and the biodiesel option.
Because how could I go through life without my van?

I'm fairly happy with my 1980 aircooled converted to 1.6TD model.
I'm running bigger tires currently but my top speed is near 75, 25+Mpg
it's a tad slow getting on the highway up to speed, kind of like racing with a restrictor plate. but once wound up, it'll cruise with highway traffic.. till theres hills..
and if ya get pulled over for speeding, ask how, with 1.6liters pushing 3500+ lbs.

I put a turbo and head off of a 86 Jetta on my Vanagon diesel. Had to crank the pump waaaaaaaaay back. Way too much fuel for the turbo to handle.
The boost runs all the time, but it works. Added an after market oil cooler which I took off of a A-1 GTI that got retired from the track.
The trannie was upgraded to a waterboxer to yield the higher gears. NOw, the long and short....
yeah, it works and added a few donkeys to the rear pusher _________________ Retired attorney--Tort King. |

what displacement? 1.6 or 1.8? My thinking on this is to go turbo 1.8. Any body know anything about the aux heater in this? _________________ LEARN TO SELF RESCUE

Spent a day under it today. Fixed the fridge and aux heater, man my hands stink!Needs the works, bumper to bumper, to be a fair resto to sell.I need a 1.9 turbo D to make it more fun. Not too long ago someone posted to install power steering, at this point I would do it. Also changing the Diff to a 84 wasser trans. 5 speed--larger diff--1.9 turbo. Light rust not that bad. Project time _________________ LEARN TO SELF RESCUE
