I just found some headlights in my garage. It's a pair of Marchal amplilux. Are these options/aftermarket accessories or where they mounted standard from the factory for some markets? These units are NOS but has no bulbs.
Any info on how rare these are, or maybe they're the most common thing on earth? I honestly have no idea. Any info would be great.
Here are some pics:

Marchal is a French company. I've seen quite a few Beetles use their fog/driving lights and some even had Yellow-colored headlight lenses. |

Karl Belcher (Peanut's Foreign car Repair) in San Diego had a pair of Marchal's on one one of his Splits, back in the 1980's. There's photos of them in the book VOLKSWAGEN Bug! The People's Car, published by the Evergreen press, on page 305. _________________ 2003 Samba Chummie Winner- Best Story

That guy had quite a selection. His private VW museum was featured in VW Trends back in 84. He had a Hebmuller & several Splits. His prototype 1960 "auto" trans Beetle was purchased by a teacher at Patrick Henry High School when I was still attending there in the late 80s. |

He also had an incrediblby low mileage (for some reason, the number 496 sticks out) low-light Ghia.
I was one of the fortunate few that actually got to go through his museum and parts stash. It was truly incredible. _________________ 2003 Samba Chummie Winner- Best Story

Actually, most Marchals have clear lenses with yellow bulbs. _________________ "What a fool believes he sees, no wise man has the power to reason away." Dobee, Dobee, Do |

What kind of goodies did you take out of there? Share, share, share.....
A while back (1996-97 I think) I met an older gentleman nicknamed Peanuts at the FamilienFest. I got quite a few NOS parts & accessories for an increibly cheap price. Is this the same guy or did Karl Belcher pass away in the 80s? He was selling stuff out of a White Dbl Cab if I remember correctly |

Glenn, I don't recall exactly when Mr. Belcher passed away, but I *think* it was in the early/mid 1990's. I didn't get anything out of the collection; none of it was for sale when I was there in the mid-1980's.
I don't recall ever seeing him at a Familienfest, and I have been to all of them, except for two years ago when I was on assigment in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.
But between him and Steve Cass, there was some really cool, really rare stuff in our neck of the woods...wonder where it all went? _________________ 2003 Samba Chummie Winner- Best Story

That's what I'd like to know. I do know where an ex-Steve Cass 1950 Beetle ended up at though |
