Nice of her to let you pull the oven out of the kitchen to bake parts.

Thanks , tcash-- the oven was a craigslist special ( $ 50 bucks) gonna have some fun with this, custom all the way , stroker engine , bamboo headliner , floors , L-shaped couch , add a/c etc. etc. Making it safe for her and the kids , keeping original exterior color combo , should be good for another 40 yrs , the bus, and the wife !! Any help along the way would be great, really learning a lot with the Ratwell threads. |

Tcash - will be going with hardwood bamboo headliner , inlaid bamboo floors , birch door and side panels . Love that thread though. Although wife has a SUV , this will be a driver resto . Like I said we'll have fun with the restore and hopefully she'll have double the fun with end product. More of a tailgating, music festival, creature comfort bus. |

Congrats! She looks like more of an ’86, or even a ’96
But really, that’s an impressive roller over’er…I’ve never seen one made of wood. Are you a framer? And that’s some nice shop space to tear into a project like that. |

Thanks, @ busstom, No I'm not a framer. Just me and an employee of mine are doing this. Will have a pro shoot the paint though, in a paint booth. I'm not in this business by any means, thought it would be fun to do. The " redneck rotisserie" was something I saw on you-tube and we built it ourselves , took about aday and a half ,about $150 in materials, Works like a charm!!! I'LL shoot a video of it in operation. |

I've not seen one made out of wood before, but that rotisserie sure seems to be doing the job. Best of luck with the work! |

Thanks eche__bus, I looked at your build thread, Wow !! What a great read ! I can really appreciate your wanting to keep as original as possible. I'm trying to keep / reuse any original parts I can, although will be more of a restomod . Lots of helpful info on your thread , thanks |

Wow.. you DON'T screw around! I love the wood rotisserie too. It looks effective and appears to work well. I love to see a video of it in action.
A suggestion? Since you have it all down to bare metal under there, go to an Auto body paint supplier and get some GOOD primer (etching first) and then a primer/sealer w/hardener in it and then some good paint. Let them recommend a good product/products after you tell them what you're trying to achieve. I've had mixed results with POR 15 and if I went to all the work that you have to get it back to bare metal, I'd use good automotive paint products that you shoot w/a gun. I think there much better than POR15.
Nice thread so far. Pls keep updating it. _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

Thanks wcfvw69, I have read a lot of opinions on the por15 vs auto paint subject. I have already blasted some parts and painted with por15 , that stuff is on rock hard !!! Im prepping per specs and going to apply " wet" top coat with por15 chassis top coat. Thanks for your input , I'm committed now to using por15 , we'll see how it goes |

Since you're going that route, make sure you use all the pre-prep products it recommends before putting the por-15 on. I used Por15 on my pan on my 69 vert during it's restoration. Well, the master cylinder developed a small leak and before I noticed it, it ruined all the Por15 paint it came in contact with. It lifted right up and peeled off in sheets. Maybe I was expecting too much from the product.
Again, I'm loving your thread and the detail of your work. It's not very often that you see folks tearing a bay down to the shell and putting it on a rotisserie. Looking forward to your updates! _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

Thanks. I know , seems like a lot of trouble for a '76 bay. But the fact the bay and my wife are the same model year is where the REAL value is to me. Like I've said this has to be a safe ride for her and the kids , two girls , 3 and 10 yrs old. My wife has always commented how cool she thought theywere, and really it will be part of our family and will probably never be sold anyway. Plus an extra bonus is -- I'm enjoying the hell out of doing this , a true labor of love. |

There is something special about owning a vehicle that was made the same year you were. You develop a bond, as if the car is an extension of yourself, it being exactly as old as you. Funny you mentioned it, because I just sold my '77 yesterday after 20 years of ownership (I'm 38 )
Enjoy it in good health my man. They are great fun vehicles and serve as a constant reminder that life is about more than just the journey _________________ '77 Bus auto EFI(stock)
