I've added interior paneling to my panel bus & like the finishing trim found on some other models. In looking for the trim piece, I've found many spot welded in place. I believe loose ones are harder to find... and are held in place only by two screws attaching it to the door panel.
I'm posting this in case anyone wants to make the piece. Forgive the mix-n-match of metric & imperial units. I started with tape measure & migrated to calipers.
e
As delivered look (minus being paint mismatch)...

Those are tough to find and seem to always be missing on campers. Took me a couple years to find an OG paint one for my SO42. Thanks for posting up the detailed dimensions in case somebody wants to make them. _________________ RPM=(MPH*336* (R&P*4th*1.26))/Tire Diameter in inches |

My 66 SO-42 westy is missing this piece. I also see them on non westy doors. Are they the same part?
Or do I need to find one specifically from a camper?
I’ve heard people mention on their buses this piece is spot welded in.
If someone could explain the differences that would be great. Thanks! |

This guy (screen name Likes Girls) posted this photo in the gallery of non Westy doors and they have the plate.
My ex '67 Kombi had it as well as my '65 Micro and '67 Westy.
Other than the Westy color they look the same. |

Hey Barry,
Are any of yours spot welded in place?

Ok, that must be the difference; the non-Westy ones are spot welded on in four spots. Why the Westy ones are loose someone will have to explain. |

Maybe commercial busses didn't come with it as they didn't have interior panels.
My door has it welded in but was off a pre 64 deluxe. |
Thinkin' you're right. My Kombi had replacement side doors. Someone show a pic of a commercial door without it? The OACDP parts blowups don't show that piece but the Westy parts does so it must come on the door if it's non Westy and non commercial.
I'd think you could drill one off the spotwelds and use it as normal. The area where the spots are is almost totally hidden behind the rubber. |
