Hello,

Was wondering what folks use for the sealent on the machined surfaces between the case halves when splitting the case.

I have always used Gasgacinch. I am rebuilding another engine for a fellow and my local supplier of gasgacinch is no longer carrying it. Thus looking for a new source or sealant.

I have some and was recomended to use Permatex Item # 80019 Aviation Form-A-Gasket Sealant Liquid. It seems quite similar to Gasgacinch...anyone use this comments?

Thanks
todd

Yeah, used permatex aviation or Indian Head gasket " shelliac" for decades.... also 3m weatherstrip yellow gorrilla snot will work too but does make it difficult to get the case back apart.
I always wipe the surfaces with a lint free cloth with laquer thinner right before applying the sealant

I used to use the Permatex, but have switched to using Curil T. Seals without leaks, and when you have to pull the motor down, it wipes up with mineral spirits (or brake or carb cleaner, whatever's handy).

I hate trying to clean off the Permatex during a rebuild.

Aircooled.Net carries the Curil stuff. I'm not sure where to get the gasgacinch anymore.

I got the aviation stuff at the local autoparts store. I know Pep Boys got it and I think Kragen has it as well. Just call around I'm sure you'll find it.
