If I cannot even get the idiot light to turn on..... any suggestions (besides wiring which was tested or the light itself which was also tested)? Burned up alternator? |

How was the wiring and bulb tested? _________________ Andy

At the alternator? Yes.
Remove the wire from the alt and touch it to ground. It should turn on. If it turned on when you touched it to the choke wire, another 12v source, it sounds like you have it wired incorrectly behind the dash. The center lug under the turn signal indicator goes to a 12v source, not ground. It feeds the oil, alt/gen and turn signal lights. _________________ Andy

the issue with that is that it's a rail.... so I wired it (my first mistake),.... I have the wire coming from the fuse box to the idiot light then connected to the alternator..... also it came on when i connected it to the choke, without the choke wire on.... if that makes sense |

Ok, it made its ground path through the choke element then. It should be fine. If it won't come on when connected to the alt and the key is turned on, then I'd say the alt is having issues. I'm not sure if the regulators are replaceable or not though. _________________ Andy

where did you hook it on the alternator? it should be the spade connection or D+. the wire feeding the choke should be a good 12 volt source.

I had it run straight off of the choke wire and was getting nothing so I'm starting to think its the alternator |

keep in mind the alternator light has to work to get the alternator to charge.
check the fuse in the fuse box. |
