Ok,
I am trying to get my bus ready for a big trip in about a week, and have two wiring questions for anyone out there.
First the vehicle is a 77 Riviera FI 2.0L
1) I am trying to replace my original isolator with a relay, since the diodes are shot. The isolator is a 4 prong. Each battery has one, there is one for the alternator, and one connected to the red wire from the regulator. To wire in the relay, I just need to connect the two battery cables, and wire in the blue idiot light wire. The alternator wire goes back to the primary battery. (Correct me if I am wrong on this). My question is where does the red wire connect to? If I am reading my wiring diagram right, it goes to the D+ terminal on the alternator. Where on the alternator is this located?
2) Ok second question. While poking around trying to fix the first question, I noticed I have two unconnected wires from my FI control unit. There is the big thick insulated group that runs to the injectors, a single wire running to the ignition coil, and then two that just end. Where on earth do they go to?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

2) the two wires that come out of the FI harness right past the bend by the air filter go NOwhere on a USA bus. They would have gone it a high altitude switch on a European bus. |

Thanks Karl. A lot of things in my bus were just randomly connected (the oil pressure wire went to the tach connection on the coil). It's good to know I can forget about those two.
I think I have the first question figured out. The red wire was cut just inside the shrink wrap, so I just hooked back into it.

On a 1974 Westy it taps D+ at the regulator. I hope you have an external regulator.

Why not just replace the isolator. It has an advantage over the relay as the batteries are "isolated". _________________ “To find yourself, think for yourself”

I coulda sworn that was the timing sensor for the VW diagnostic tester that goes to the inductance pick-up that is pressed into the crankcase right half just behind the flywheel.
