Recently I picked up a 72 914 and I am having a difficult time getting the front hood latch to open.

There is a lock on the hood release. Can you tell me if the unlock position is vertical or horizontal? I have tried pulling and twisting the handle but I am still unable to get the hood open. I have looked for some instruction on pulling the handle but it seems harder to find than I expected.

If the hood latch is permanently stuck is there a way to get it open other than cutting a hole in the body or the hood?

Any help would be appreciated.

Looks like taking the bumper off gives you access

yes remove the bumper, then there is a rubber plugged access hold dead center. Remove the plug put a screw driver in the hole and move it sideways and the hood will pop. THEN remove the cable and lubricate it so it will once again pull easily. THAT tip and many more are in the tech tips 700 book by dr914
