So, is the engine covered in dust or paint overspray? There's money on the line here.
Great looking Bug though, it would be a steal these days in the US is it's as dry & clean & rust-free in person as in the pictures. _________________ "Men are qualified for civil liberty in exact proportion to their disposition

It's dust. We got her running this morning after putting in 4 litres of petrol and a charged battery. Started on about the sixth try.

Is this extensive body damage, or previously damage covered up? The lines from the b-pillar back at way wrong, especially where the side moulding fails to follow the contour of the body line. _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.

I agree that there seems to be some pretty decent damage in that area, but also, its Kenya, and I'm sure replacement quarter's are not what we would call affordable. Hopefully its not too bad that its structual and more just cosmetic that may need some panel beating and mud slinging again. _________________ Phil “Deluxe”

the chrome trim is also obviously not original and it appears to have been riveted or screwed in place, the rear quarter panel section was clearly made from a straight piece and it doesn't follow the curvature of the panel, making it appear distorted (or more distorted than it actually is). _________________ cars:

As previously mentioned, therer is no advance hooked up on the distributor, so it will have no power.
Also, that plastic gas filter against the manifold heat riser is a fire waiting to happen! Replace all gas line.

Congratulations!!!!!
As other may have mentioned, the fuel filter as it is located is a fire hazard. it must not rest on the hot manifold preheat tube as it is currently doing. Best bet is to remove the filter from the engine bay, place it under the car near the transmission. Dont let your new Bug burn! The distributor needs the vaccum advance hooked up, looks like the hose nipple got torn off the vacuum can. and of course the carb will be sucking air thru the dissabled hose fitting now too. so address this defect. The missing hoses on either side of the fan house will cause several bad things. It will cause loss of cooling air for the motor, cause the heat exchangers to over heat and cook the cylinder heads, and allow hot air from the heat exchangers into the engine bay which is not good for engine cooling. So get those hoses installed
But first things first, make that fuel filter fire safe!!!!!
That is a pretty Bug you have.
Is that an African built model, or European built? I think they built African Bugs in both Nigeria and South Africa. _________________ Sorry About That Chief.

IIRC Kenya assembled euro CKDs, but I'm unsure of the dates. Nigeria stayed with the pre-65 small windows (CKDs from Brazil) and South Africa used wide five wheels (pre-ball joint pan) until the end of production. _________________ cars:
