Hi Chris,
found a pic from the 54 manual in the gallery (added by Anchovy), not the best image but u can see the metal strap and fixing.
(and one from Rockstock) 53/54 manual
the second one looks similar to what I have in the 61 DC.

Just for info my bus has the original battery tray, and has the threaded stud fixing.
I think its been suggested that a late split bus petrol tank strap could be turned into a late barndoor battery strap.

Thanks for the pics, the barndoor this is for has a threaded stud fixing, I am looking for pics of how the strap is attached to the other side, the bent tab (nearest the side of the bus) ... anyone ?

This image is from the post-Barndoor 1955 shop manual.
All Barndoors have the other strap and the negative cable bolts to the battery tray.
I verified that by examining both my 53/54 manual and my 55 manual.

Yes, I've seen this done. Just needs to be shortened I believe. |

I'm resurrecting the dead thread...
I'm searching for a battery strap for my November '54 Kombi, and it seems to be holiest of grails.
I'm struggling to find information on them, let alone one for my bus.
For those of you that have converted a late bus fuel tank strap, how/what did you use on the outer side? The tank straps have tabbed ends, whereas the bus flange has a hole for a hook.
First prize would be an original strap, however if I have to make one, I'd like to get it as close as is possible.

The fuel tank strap has a welded fitting on one end, and the other end is just the loose strap which slides through a slot and folds over on it's self.
I use fuel tank straps to make custom length battery straps for post-barndoor buses. The original ones fold around the clamp and are spot welded, but I don't bother welding them because once you fold it back on it's self, it doesn't go anywhere.
From the pictures, it looks like you just need a fuel tank strap and fit it to the size of the battery.

I'm struggling to find clear photos of a strap showing the 'hook' end of the strap.
Do you perhaps have photos of these late barndoor straps to share?

Flatten the strap, slide it along the bottom of the battery tray under the bracket, and fold it back upon it's self. Basically put the two above photos together.
