No, it's not stolen, just stolen from my heart.

In 2001 I sold the car on Ebay, and I've regretted it ever since. I spent years knowing nothing about it, and recently was able to find the guy who purchased it on Facebook.

He told me the car went to Fort Drum New York when his son went in the Army, it was supposedly sold to someone there but he was unable to provide any more info.

Has anyone here by chance seen the car sometime in the past 10 years?

I'd appreciate any info that anyone can provide!

Chris

Although you never forget your first, it's best to move on, experience some other fish in the sea, find a new love to devote all your spare free time and cash to.

Posting a VIN if you still have it might help, but after 10 years time it's going to be hard to find. Looks like a nice bug though. Like KTPhil said, it might be best to focus on a new one. Maybe build another one just like it?

Virtually All of us have these similar stories. Welcome to the club. Darn few of us ever find that old first love.

Mine? 1960 India Red Beetle, Sunroof, mostly original. Sold it in the early 70's to obtain a 68 Chevelle SS. Dumbest thing I ever did! (though I wish I had that Chevelle about right now....BIG $$$$"s)

My bug was last seen by the girl I sold it to years after I sold it, parked with a blown engine back in the late 70's on the Beltway around Washington DC. It may still exist but who knows. At that time collecting wasn't a big thing and it probably got crushed to make a new Honda!

Interestingly Bob Cropsey the Author of the VW History to Hobby Book has an exact duplicate of my first car in pristine shape, even had it for sale last I heard. Sadly way too much money for a simple memory ride! I Think he wanted around $10,000 for it. Don't know if it sold or not.

Keep looking but don't count of finding it, few do.

Dave

Thanks Dave, I don't expect to find it, but I for sure won't if I don't look. Forums provide a nice broad reach across the country for a chance that someone may know where it is.

Posting in the Beetle forum might be a better idea.

It might help too if you post more about the car, more pics if you have them, what engine it had, anything distinguishing about it, etc. Best of luck finding it, they do turn up sometimes.

I bought one on ebay almost identical to this one in March**, same year same color also had a recovered dash and headliner. The owner was also in the army stationed in NC. Said he had owned it for several years and "driven all up and down the east coast" with his career. It may or may not be the same one...He sold it locally AFTER I won the auction before I could pick it up. His ebay ID is Member id stephenm5655 I still think he i an asshole for not following through with my purchase but if this is the car your after I would be happy to lend a hand. The auction is too old to pull up now but if it is not the same car it is VERY VERY close.

I found an auction where he sold a 71 that was blue, but not the same car.

Mine had a very distinct rear end

I tried to send him a message on Ebay just in case though.

Lots of things can get changed in 10 to 12 years. What you thought was a cool and distinct raer end may not have appealed to the new owners. Or it may have gotten clunked and needed repair.

I'm going to bring this thread back from the dead because I am still looking for the car!

Details:
1973 Super Beetle
Chassis Number: 1332543365
2"/3" Wider fiberglass fenders with dual round custom tail lights on the rear.

I told it in 2001 to a family in Alton, IL, last I heard from them the car made it's way to Fort Drum in New York, I haven't heard anything else about it since, but I'm still looking!

Thanks for any help!
