There is a type 3 convertible around town- really nice. Where did these come from? How many were made? Is this a one off deal? _________________ '87 Porsche 911

Pics? VW made a few prototypes. Nothing ever went into full production. There is literature and parts diagrams, but they only made a few. _________________ I'd be UNSTOPPABLE if not for Law Enforcement and PHYSICS.
I recycle old cars and parts, other than when I rot, that's as Green as I am going to get.
Thanks to my Tesla driving neighbors, I feel more relaxed driving my SUBURBAN and old VW's.

Where is "around town"? Your post doesn't include your location. |

I can see why they never went into production. The proportions don’t work without the top. Exception is the Type 3 Ghia, excellent look with the top down. _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!

The real ones look better in my opinion as they aren't hacked in weird locations.
A hacked Squareback looks weird anyway because the shape is different without the Notchback trunk area and lid.
Cool:
I agree the Type 34 looks with the top down.
I think the Type 34 Convertible with the top up looks weird.
The top look is strange to me because of no rear side windows.

Pretty much normal for top line German 2 seater cabriolets of the era, though
Pretty sure the side window style Cabrio top first surfaced on the 1971 350SL. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

Those are actually roll up windows, not a part of the soft top. That car is also not a 2 seater. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

The Type 34 isn't a two seater either, even if it basically is a two seater.

This is my son's 65 Roadster (no top) in it's first go thru (put all of the pieces together, as it was a cut up parts car).
This is what he started with (cleaning up the yard he claimed).
Nose art from the 2008 Type 3 Invasion.
Under construction shot in the garage after getting a 1.7L type4 engine installed. It also got converted to IRS in the rear.

The Ghia is between a 2+2 Coupe and a true two seater like a 914. Only because it has a rear bench and not two or even one "seats" in the rear. I call it a 2+2 all the time even though I think of it as a two seater. With the cabrios being built, the rear seat is even smaller. _________________

Which still falls in line with what Tram was saying about seeing those quarter windows on the 350/400 SL - to which I believe those Lorenz tops come from, especially since that Lorenz stuff was being made in the early 80's. _________________
