Appreciate the link but I am still trying to figure out the numbers as I do not see the Chassis Vin # corresponding or the Body # which mine is 5 digit #.
Maybe I am just having a brain freeze here but any help is appreciated. |

1-1953194 is stamped on your tunnel ?
19519 is stamped below your vin plate behind the spare tire ?
Pics for reference

You typed a 1 instead of a 0, your vin is 1-0953194
That makes your car Aug 1955 but it a 1956 model
as for the body number its strange its only 5 numbers, it is what is is though.
My 56 vert was built on Aug 9 , 1955 per the birth certificate
My Vin is 1-0924xxx ( i don't remember the last 3 as i don't have it in front of me) Body # 15-24586 its a vert that's why it starts with 15-

Yes, I am an idiot. That makes sense now. Possible their is a 6th digit on that body number at the end that is not showing through the paint...I'll look closer tomorrow;
Last question, what website do you order the Birth Certificate and how long did it take to get? Thank you! |

Is your Engine number 1147066 or is it 1-1147066? If it is 1-1147066, you very well might have the original engine that came with the car. Have you already sent a request for the birth certificate? When you send for the certificate, they will NOT tell you what the number of the original engine was, but if you provide them the number to the engine that you have, they WILL tell you if it is the original or not. If you have already sent for the certificate, you might want to see if you can add your engine number to the request. I have heard that others were able to do that. |

@h~moto My engine # is it is 1-1147066 and I believe it is the original motor and all of the numbers seem to de-code to a July/August '55 date whihc wold match up to an early '56.
I did provide the engine # as you suggested on my birth certificate request so hopefully they will let me know if it is the original motor.
Thank you for your input and info! |

Regarding your body number, it is 5 digits because they left of the leading 0. Your 6 digit body number would be 019519 - Which also confirms an August 1955 build. |

@i55, thank you. Yes, this is what I determined also. At first I thought I could not read the last digit but then realized that the August '55 builds were in the 5 digits. |

The engine is an August 1955 built, so most likely the correct one 🙂
My 56 beetle is built 4. August 1955, the engine built around 2. August, and the body in July 55 _________________ I got a historic car, every scratch got a history...
