pretty certain that rain trays were not fitted as not enough clearance.

the engine and carb need those vents - trust the vw engineers, if they were not necessary they wouldn't be there.

Oh yea I understand that. The amount of airflow would be restricted I know, tough it would just depend on the Volume of air being sucked into the compartment from vacuum.

I have been searching for other alternatives to the age old unappealing vent cover, and I think I have found a fun alternative that should, if the angles work out well, prevent water and debris from as easily entering the engine compartment.

Reviving this because there is still one piece missing from all of this.

At some point the deck lid light covers (the "awning"), changed from being smooth, to having ribs. The ribbed ones are also made of plastic. My hunch is this is either a 1973 or 1975 change, but I cant confirm.

Does anyone know what year this changeover happened? Or if it was country specific?

Seller of the ribbed claims its 74 onwards, but secondary confirmation of that would be nice. Mine was taken off a '72, but my 72 was rear ended at some point so it might not be stock.

Long story short, no pics, but last night I was driving my 67' and got rear ended by a DoorDash driver.

Last night...

Just got to work, so naturally I jump on the internet.

Where should I start looking for a 67 rear apron, 67 fenders, and a 67 decklid? Should I look for a 67 convert decklid?

Car was built in 1982 (by my Dad) and I took over ownership in 2004. The only stock parts left on this thing were the original 67 sedan decklid and 2 doors, so I don't need to source original parts, but rather, my first priority is to choose from a quality vendor, or, at the very least, choose QUALITY parts.

The first day I had a drivers license I drove it to school with my younger brother in the passenger seat, took my wife on one of our first dates (crashed it with her in it, but lucky for me, my Dad fixed that, and my girlfriend eventually said yes, still married 19 years later.) It's a Cal look style done in my Dad's taste, which can best be described as "early 80's.) The decklid had a standoff kit, which was part of it's signature look (and annoyance when passerby's flag me down to tell me I left the trunk open) but i'm not stuck on getting the original style decklid. I'm fairly certain a 67' convertible style decklid (doesn't need to be an original) would work well.

So again, which vendors/websites should I start looking at? I'm not looking for a bargain, i'm looking for quality. This car means something to me, and my family and i'm only hoping I can do a good enough job in finding the right parts to start. (located in Nevada, USA, so i'd rather not source from individuals around the world.)

Nice, thank you for the guidance...it'll be a long process to get it back to where I want it...but it's still in my garage after all these years. I literally just did a semi-resto (all new wiring, all new rubber, all new interior, new motor, refreshed brakes and much more) in the hopes of driving it...I have a daily, so this is my "fun" car, but i've been driving it to work 5 days a week (250 miles per week), because I WANT TO DRIVE IT. It wasn't on the road 2 weeks and i'm sitting at a red light, minding my own business when a DoorDash driver rear ends me; he tells me he was checking his app, signing on to take somebody's order and wasn't paying attention to the fact that the light was red.
