Anyone else here tow a teardrop trailer or similar with their VW?
I have just recently purchased this very early 1950's craftsman built Teardrop Trailer... It needs a full rebuild and some much more suitable guards/fenders, (no idea what happened to the originals) but should look great behind my bug when completed

Heres some pics of the inside guys... It is a bit of a mess at the moment...
I have managed to evict all the spiders It is made entirely of a timber frame and marine ply sheeting. The rear kitchen area is all gone due to water getting in the badly leaking rear hatch. Its going to need all the sheeting and some of the framework replaced as well. I have been thinking of VW rear guards but, they will need too much work to make them fit I think... I will hopefully have it restored by end of Summer here in Oz (end of February 06) just in time for a few of the local VW meets here.
Cheers
Greg

I nicely restored one of those years ago. Great and fun project. Good luck.
There are some good looking swept-back fiberglass fenders available that would look appropriate on that trailer. |

I'm planning on pulling this one! My husband made it for our PtCruiser, but now I'm going to take off the pt stickers and pull it with my bus!!
Notice the vw light at the top of the next picture!!
There's the water tank to the left.
Here's the sink and radio!

Thanks Aussie Greg! I think it's going to look cute behind it. It's smaller then the bus so it will look like it was made for it. Only thing is, it's basically just to haul stuff in(because of it size). You can't sleep in it, but I guess that's what the bus is for!
I would much rather have yours though!! That is an awsome tear drop. I think it would be a blast to fix it up!! Have fun with it!!

Thanks justcruzin I intend to have plenty of fun with mine... The body section is about 8ft long by 4ft wide... so there should be plenty of room to sleep in it. I'm hoping its not going to be too heavy for my 1200 bug as it weighs approx 250kgs my bug is 700kgs not sure what that is in pounds but, I've always got the Type 3 when I get it finished as well.
I think your bus would be far more comfortable then sleeping in a trailer anyway! Very cut little trailer you have there!

I am starting my first teardrop in the next month or so, gathering parts right now.
If you folks are interested I could start a page and post pics as I get stuff done on it.
Or I can just throw out some pics here now and then |
