1. So "proud" of Los Angeles
2. Unfortuantely, copper stealing is widespread; AC parts, copper pipes, copper wires, have all been stolen - everywhere.
3. Fortunately, thieves have overlooked this as being copper

Thank you for pointing that out. I'm on it.
That's how I'll finance my next Bug now that everyone thinks they're worth $30k a pop.
Inflation.
There's gotta be copper flashing and gutters somewhere in Manhattan. Not to waste a trip, I'll check Grand Central Station and the New York Public Library while I'm there.
Don't tell the tweakers there are bundles of copper cables big around as your wrist under every New York street.

Around here local scrap yards won't buy salvaged copper wire or copper plumbing unless you have a contractor's license. The ideal is to cut down on thieves damaging and stealing. _________________ 2017 Street Comp Champion - Thunder Valley Raceway Park - Noble, OK

No such problem, here. I rolled in with a Prius loaded with almost a thousand pounds of bare bright the other day. It rides nice 'n' low like that.
Difficulty is scrapping any car newer than 2000 without a title. No paper... guess you're stuck with it.

Ben weitsman in Albany will take those. Youβll need ID and sign papers but heβll run the Vin and take it from there. Heβll call the cops if itβs stolen right there, too. _________________ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ π π π |

Here in Arizona, thieves also go after catalytic converters; I think there are laws about buying used /stolen converters, but such laws are toothless or ignored.
The converter on my 1998 Frontier was unbolted in my driveway one night, thief left the 4 bolts and nuts for me; police said Nissan and Toyota converters were often targeted but thieves mostly just cut them off with battery-powered sawzalls (noiser but faster).
The converter on my 2004 Frontier was cut off when previous owner had it, she just had a universal one welded on.
And it's not like I'm in a high-crime area. Trucks - even small trucks not raised - are easier for thieves to simply slide under to cut the converters off. _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each. Hey...copper is SUPER valuable. Without it we have no wires to run to our claymores and no jackets for our ammunition!

Come on Ray, get up to date. Use the Bluetooth Claymores, but make sure you pair to the right one _________________ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ π π π |

I blame cordless Sawzalls. Used to be you either needed torches or an electrical outlet. Not anymore! Some tweaker with a battery Sawzall can steal your cats while you're waiting for the light to change.
The story isn't about eating cats, it's stealing cats. Anyone who has never seen the underside of a car doesn't know what we're talkin' about.
Cat thieves prefer 4x4 trucks and SUVs. They can get under there with their little Sawzall, no problem!

It is legal to melt down silver & gold US coins. It is not legal to melt down US copper pennies. The scrap value of a pre-82 95% copper penny is 2 cents. Today US pennies are 97.5% Zink and 2.5% copper. It cost the US Mint about 3 cents to make a penny. _________________ 2017 Street Comp Champion - Thunder Valley Raceway Park - Noble, OK

AI Overview
Learn moreβ¦
In the United States, it's generally legal to melt silver coins, such as dimes, quarters, and half-dollars, if you're not doing so for profit. For example, you can melt coins to make art or jewelry for personal use. However, melting down pennies and nickels is prohibited, with some exceptions.
The Secretary of the Treasury has the authority to prohibit or limit the melting, exportation, or treatment of U.S. coins if they decide it's necessary to protect the coinage.
You should also report if you sell a silver coin that's 90 percent silver with a face value of at least $1,000. |

Those contain platinum and Rhodium, far more valuable than gold. Another huge problem here in Gotham City. Staying on topic. Gold is correcting itself in price. Today it is $2618.00 _________________ I'd be UNSTOPPABLE if not for Law Enforcement and PHYSICS.

We've done a little investing in gold/silver and it's worked out, better than I imagined-it was originally supposed to be the 'conservative' part of our portfolio, but has since out paced other investments.
Sustainable? Who knows.
Point in case:
When this thread started (oct. '24/one year almost to the day), the gold spot price was:
$2721/oz
today it's
$4118/oz
Silver:
Oct. '24 was:
$34.
Today:
$52
That's significant in my mind, I've always thought it was something that does not move much? _________________ 58 356a
