Fire Sale... Good one!
I agree this seems like a huge mistake and someone is going to end up having to track all that stuff down again in the future.
And probably get mad when they can't locate a few pieces
OR
someone won't sell something that was original to that Bus.
(I think that's happened a few times) _________________ How to Post Photos

Firetrucks are neat, but how many people here have space in their collection for one? Even worse for ambulances. It is great to say someone should keep it stock and original, but it is a probably nice condition barndoor and the owner probably has plans for it that don't involve it being a museum piece.
I don't think he will get any big offers for the equipment. There are less people out there that want firetrucks than there are firetrucks. _________________ .

A fire bus is really cool, but at the end of the day it's a rolling museum and conversation piece. Not all that useful, unless you are pumping water and I'm sure there are far better modern options for pumps nowadays anyway.
I don't understand why one would buy a fire bus, then part out all the (very) original pieces that make it a unique bus, just to have an empty boring panel.
IMO, it would make more financial sense to sell it complete, then buy an empty barndoor panel. It's a buyers market right now, and over 50 barndoors listed in the classifieds just on this site alone. _________________ WANTED:

Well... he does have the ad in the parts for sale category... not cars for sale. I assume he's piecing it out. _________________ My Beetles :

Looks like this fire engine conversion has 2 cargo area windows, in the 3rd position
(Is Magirus the maker of the fire equipment, and/or the conversion company?)
Does it have the Ambulance rear hatch etc?
How many are left?
— — —
This Ziegler-converted Fire Engine is based on an 11w Ambulance?
Is it me, or is there little info on Fire Engines?
Any brochures? _________________ -StockRocks- |

I was able to identify at least half a dozen brochures. They are all in German and I don't have any in my collection.
Here is some info I have handy. I probably have some more somewhere. This is from the dealer options catalog, which was a book that a dealership in Germany would have to show prospective buyers.

I second Lind's opinion on how many collectors are out there, wanting to store or display such a rare truck. But there are. My friend Valentin still owns the local to his community '65 fire truck, with all the equipment ( In this case it was even his own father in charge of the fire department and ordering the bus when brandnew). But he rarely drives it obviously.
Fire engines and supply trucks are usually among the most well kept and maintained historical vehicles.
Imho, whoever owns or buys such a rare and complete vehicle, needs to stand up and respect the history of it. I think it could be ok to carefully remove and store the equipment, while the bus is used for travelling, camping and such, but all the stuff must never be sold off. It needs to be kept with the original bus. Especially in this case, the neat trailer and hitch!
As mentioned above, if somebody purchased this van and insisted on removal of the fire equipment for a discount. That one is a cheapskate, and should have never been allowed to have the bus! Imho, he has no respect for history and doesn't deserve this nice bus at all! _________________ Hotrods, Fords, Veedubs and Triumph Twins !

I think firetrucks are neat. I was really tempted to buy this one. The only things holding me back were that I didn't have the space for it or the money to buy it. Other than that, I would have bought it. The bus has my name on it even (kind of anyway).

That makes me weep.
I'd dearly love to give a fire bus a very loving home. ...stuff of dreams.
To see someone part out something like that is heartbreaking. _________________
