I wish I could provide pictures. I don"t think I took any of the front mount. I used a fairly standard awning mount on the B pillar and C pillar. I made a mount under the westy roof basket to support the front for the pivot point. I i was to do it again I would span the roof under the basket to tie into the drivers side too. The way my mount is single sided is strong enough for the awning to be unsupported, but I do stress about it fatiguing the mounting points on the gutter and under the basket.

If I redo it I will document what I build. That will have to wait until I do my other project van.

The look I’m going For : OVS Nomadic 180 Awning .

Screenshots taken from a video I found on YouTube showing me it was possible on a T3.

Fast forward-> Awning is ordered & Recieved . Then realized how heavy and original the mounting on a pop-top T3 is . Finding Rain Gutter Brackets sturdy enough was going to be a task.

Thankfully I may have found a solution…
Ozroofracks on ETSY.com A company out of Austria . They make heavy duty gutter style mounting brackets for multiple vans .

Australia, actually…just saying. Wink

I’m very interested in the actual gauge steel of the “ozroofracks” brackets.
It would be great if they’re great, but from this end of the internet they don’t
look much different than the 10-11 gauge brackets from GW, VC/RMW, etc.

No information or specs on the Etsy page.

Looking forward to your report!

I am curious about those mounts. Did THOSE come from Vamoose also? I am not opposed to rivnuts on the roofline to accommodate the heavier 270 I have.

Hi , following this thread in hopes for a solution.

I recently purchased a Nomadic 180 awning (was most appealing awning to me)
Had seen a video on YouTube of it installed on a vanagon. Now am trying to install on my 91 weekender pop top. Want to install onto the Rain Gutters but seeing how heavy this awning is . All the “available brackets for a T3” just won’t hold up. Mounting onto crossbars will interfere with functionality of the pop top.

Found some brackets from Europe used on T5 & T6 models by company called Vamoose that do not interfere with pop top functionality.
Only issue I can’t find a seller in the U.S. of A.

syncrodoka - I like this awning too. Hard to tell from your video, but you seem to have 3 mounting brackets. I imagine that the rear and middle are from VanCafe/RMW as they seem more robust than the ones from GoWesty. But tell us where you got them and show us close ups of them please, especially the one that appears to be mounted over the slider door. Thx

Do you have a Youtube link where you got those screenshots??

I got my OVS180 as a present, finally getting around to building brackets. The awning is not light, got some weight for sure. 45lbs give or take. Thinking 3 Rivnut body mounted rain gutter brackets plus 2 additional rain gutter brackets. 5 brackets total. All 3/16th steel. Adequate support is critical I think.
The OZ rack mounts look interesting, like to know how they work out for you.

I just wanted to post a reply to all. Van Cafe has come up with the answer to all of the problems related to the 180deg and the 270deg awning mounting and they now are selling the Overland Adventure awnings.

https://vancafe.com/270-degree-awning-brackets-for...g+brackets

Well done to all who made this happen and thank you to Van Cafe for always looking for ways to improve our Westys.

Gordo.

This ^^^ looks fantastic! Anyone got theirs yet? Smile

Description says “5 brackets”…I only see 4 on the rain gutters, am I missing something? Maybe they’re counting the flat bracket to the awning case for the bar across the back above the hatch? Just curious, Sunday here…I’ll prob’ly call VC for more info tomorrow.

Not sure I’ll bite, I’ve already got almost the same $$$ invested here in extra brackets, spare metal & reinforcement panels for my welding project/ideas, just haven’t committed to doing the work yet. I might just sell this stuff & go with the VC option. So much to think about!

Cool

IMHO this is the only way I would do a 270 degree awning. Such good use of the space we typically don't use when camping. Like the, what I'm guessing is a shower/bathroom enclosure at the back too!

Same here. Shading the windshield makes the front area cooler and more usable. I don't want to hang out by the hot engine

Meh. Do what you want, but seems to me that mounting at the A pillar, due to slope of the windshield plus the bumper you lose about 2 feet of covered space…leaving only 5 feet usable space on the ground.

Crying or Very sad

I look forward to more covered space at the rear, where I’m always in & out for gear stowed in the back & cabinets. Maybe it’s different for weekender (because all cabinets are accessible from outside the hatch) plus I’m solo so I always keep the cabin in living room mode & always sleep up top. All my gear, food, etc… pretty much everything is right inside my back hatch.

I’m also tired of rain getting into the hatch…90° & 90% humidity summers here in MN, I always leave screens up, plus windows & rear hatch wide open during the day. Rain just complicates things but I’d still rather have the ventilation. Awning over the back helps with that, & no downside for me.

Confirmed by phone just now…exactly 4 rain gutter brackets, as shown….no more, no less. Marketing misquote, apparently. “Mike” says that description will be corrected. He says they’ve sold two since it came out last Friday…who was it? SHOW YOURSELVES!

Still, looks like just what a guy needs, maybe I’m next. Now off to raid my van cash stash…

A part of me wishes I wouldn't have just put so much into my 90* awning.

The rest of me looks at the total price and thinks we'll be fine for a while with a 90* awning.
