Well.. Your work is great. But this car needed to be dipped. If not in California, then another state. And I think there needs to be a company that has a way of puting cars in a rotisserie so the car can be dipped and rolled several times in each phase so the car is rust free, cleaned and epoxied inside and out. Otherwise these cars are being fixed but will have issues show up later. I do not know of anyone doing this, but it is clearly needed.
Maybe you are the guy to start this in a state that would allow it?
Your work is great though!
Best of luck. _________________ Current projects:

^^^ Hello there^^^
Thanks for the kind words and suggestions , I appreciate that.
I think you be pleased with how nice this one will return. It will in fact be sealed inside and out. American Stripping does the job like no other outfit I have seen or used and I have used a lot. Their slogan is “ Start with the best finish “ Stay tuned to see the results when it returns.
Here are a few examples of what you cha expect
Side Note : I asked Google which is best … this was the top result….

Looks awesome! Perfect! I just wonder now if dipping like I thought would be next level and easier? Obviously there is a market for it.
Keep going Sir!
Looking great! _________________ Current projects:

Got some very nice parts in from Gab Fab , these will be a huge help.
Also used my perimeter fixtures to discover the pan bolt holes do not line up to factory locations but the most alarming was how twisted the pan head is.

Yes, those are some very nice replacement panels made by Danny.
I thought I remembered that 1957 cabriolet being on a later IRS style chassis back when I saw it for sale quite a few years ago. Is that the IRS chassis or did the owner find a donor swing axle chassis? |

^^^ Hello there^^^
Ya know I have no idea … at this point I know very little about the back story on this one. You most likely know it better than I. _________________ ⚒ Believe In The Power Of Positive Thinking ⚒

Started removing the old pans halves, larger Mig welds are so much more difficult then factory spot welds. At first we tried air hammering the halves
off the traditional way but no luck. My son had to painstakingly grind away each plug weld. He did a killer job.

We continue to discover issues with the chassis. After looking close at the underside I saw that the cap was removed from the tunnel by cutting it off in the field away from the spot welds. We cut it off and found the fuel line just floating inside. I think it safe to safe that when it was welded back on this is when the big twist happened. We also removed the jack points in preparation to use them on the new pans.

I’m going to get real technical with this chassis. I have a Strong Hand Tools 4x8 modular fab table that is designed to handle jobs like this. Using the table and accessories with the modular layout I will be able to pin it down accurately so we can begin to reconstruct it.
I have a donor pan that I’m going to carefully remove the tunnel cap from so we have a proper replacement. I will also be replacing the fuel line and reinforcing the clutch tube in multiple places.

This poor pan….
We finally got the remainder of the tunnel cap off. My son and I were trying to make sense of what the last shop was up to. The first side we got off without to much of a fuss with the air hammer. Then when got to the other side we quickly discovered they attempted to drill out the spot weld with a 3/8 bit. But somehow they missed almost every spot weld ,so I would assume that’s when they gave up and cut it off in the field. Using the air hammer on that side it would go through the factory spot welds but when it came to the hole they drilled and then tried to weld back up they weren’t connected, they failed to fuse the to materials back together. The next noticeable thing was that they failed to get the hump to the cap welded back without changing the shape, some areas where wider then factory. I told my son it looked like a small snake ate a rabbit…. anyhow… enough about all that , we got it to a point we can work with

Ok folks. My son and I got my donor pan in and began to harvest the tunnel cap off, It is in amazing condition. We are going to cut the tunnel away and remove the unwanted flanges is such a way that the cap flanges themselves will be undisturbed and ready to marry to the other tunnel.
I just received word that the body is ready for pick up at the blaster so I will be going down Wednesday to bring it back to the Werkshop.
I will be sure to post up pictures.

Wow! That is going to require a lot of repair work. I can't believe how lumpy the body panels look. It's going to be great to see this car put back together. |

Hey Mr Loren.
Talking with the guys today at American Stripping we both agreed that the body and the removables must have been previously blasted and unfortunately some of what we see here is warping from the heat of the sand. If extra care is not taken on a VW the sheet metal can warp fairly easy. I have seen this in my early days trying to go to the cheapest guy in the market. _________________ ⚒ Believe In The Power Of Positive Thinking ⚒

Looks like theghiagirl is right! The rear body mounts are hacked. Scary what you find under a "restored" cars paint! _________________ '58 Ghia 2387cc with a Berg / Folts 5 Speed

Dirty Indeed….
It’s a drag to see first hand what some shops these days are willing to do to make money.
All I can do from here is try to stay positive and do my best to throughly rectify the situation and bring some Joy back into the life of this rare convertible. _________________ ⚒ Believe In The Power Of Positive Thinking ⚒
