They should have an answer machine saying leave a message, but it might be weeks before they call back.

Email should have a auto responder saying the same.

Not answering the phone or email makes people think they are out of business.

I live 3 mins from Brothers very much in business you gotta realize its two man operation they are building motors not hanging by the phone sometimes you have to go in and out the door 3 times to sound the door chime thats on a PA speaker 100 decibels they are mostly deaf and use ear plugs to retain what's left of their hearing.

Ah, good to know. At the shop I apprenticed at, the owner basically had no hearing, worked with one other person, yet, almost always answered their telephone and called back same day. So appreciate knowing the difference, different strokes for different folks.

The fellow called this afternoon, he lost the paper with what size the crankshaft was so didn't cut the bearings yesterday as promised. I know stuff happens, however, should have called me first thing this morning. It's not hard folks to have decent customer service.

Then just a short while ago texts me the card doesn't work. His number is (626) 290-5013, I have no name. Also sent me a picture of an invoice created today (so per California law I would only have to pay the initial estimate plus $100, however, I know they are fathers trying to keep a shop open, so I wouldn't) and instead of the line bore being $35 as told me two or three times, it is $85. I heard just fine case savers are $85 a couple times, so didn't mis-hear.

I also reminded him of his promise the case to be here early next week, I got to get going on the rebuild.

I was also nice by offering to take more time out of my life to help him and send him a cheque tomorrow.

Edit. Seems doesn't want a cheque, still saying the card not going through is on my end. So, had the thought maybe it is a translation issue and asked if it help if had a friend who knows Spanish communicate with him. I am fourth and fifth generation American, so have sympathy, must be frustrating not being understood.

After reading all the great feedback Renato and Brothers have received over the years, I'm wondering what went wrong here...

Brothers did a fantastic job at refurbishing my heads in 2019.
But an exhaust valve stem broke while driving back from BBB in January.
Of course, the valve breaking was no fault of Brothers. Shit happens.
I contacted Renato about repairing the damaged head, and he said it would be no problem.
The head was shipped and received end of January.

Since then I've spoken with Renato three times, each time being told he would get to it "this week". Now he won't even answer my calls or emails. My assumption is he's lost or misplaced the head, in which case I'm royally screwed.

If I had it to do over again, I would use a local machine shop.

I'm at a loss...

I shipped the damaged head to Brothers in Ontario. Renato received it on February 5 according to UPS.

Since then I have called every two weeks to see what the status is, and keep getting a response of "It will be done this week."

But the last time I spoke with Renato, he said my 1.7 liter headS will be done by Friday. I only sent one head, and it's a 1.8.

So I'm feeling certain he has lost my head. If so, I'm up Shit Creek.

I thought I was doing a good thing by sending the head back to the original machine shop. But now I'm going to be out a couple thousand to replace both heads.

In the future, I wouldn't recommend anyone sending parts to Brothers. If you live in the vicinity and are able to stop by to ask about the status, you might be better off. But I won't be recommending Brothers in the future.

Most of the time if you lose a valve the head is damaged beyond repair. He may be trying to find a matching core to refinish.

I just want to follow up with the missing head situation...

I finally was able to get Renato to admit the head was lost. Luckily I had taken detailed photos of it before sending it to him. Once he received the pictures, he found the missing head. And, as expected, his shop appears to have done a great job in rebuilding it and shipping it back.

Then.... FedEx lost it! Rolling Eyes

But they only lost it for a week. It finally arrived three months after shipping it out.

The head has now been reinstalled.
