Recently the bottom pin recently came out of my rear vent window. This is in my 72 bay window

Is this fixable without removing both the vent window frame and side window? I dont want to remove it until im sure i can replace without having to remove all that. The side window is a brand new install with new seal.

If removable, is there an improvement for this bottom pin so its less likely to pop out again?

Thanks

The pin is (was) peened into the glass frame, the short answer to fix it is open the wallet and buy a new assembly, the work and tooling requied to repair that far exceeds the price of a replacement.

Thanks bus daddy;

If I’m understanding correctly then, I dont Have to remove the entire vent window I can just replace this glass frame assembly itself?

Example of replacement assembly:

AFIK you need to remove the entire vent assembly.

A search with the terms vent window installation will turn up bunches of threads on the topic.

This thread may be helpful: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=759187&highlight=vent+window+installation[/b]

Did some searching this morning and it does seem like others have successfully fixed this pin with JB weld or spot weld with the frame

https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=...p;start=20

I'll give this a try this weekend. Remove the glass only, push the pin through while looking above inside channel. Weld it from the inside the channel (spot or JB, still TBD).. Clean and reinsert glass.

This might be too late; if so sorry. Since the bottom pin is broken, you will be able remove the glass with everything in place. Once you fix the bottom pin; however, you absolutely cannot put it back in the frame without remove the big, static piece of glass and then slide the vent frame back to remove it. The vent wing must be out of the bus. Also, I’m a professional boater, and epoxy (JB Weld in this case) is excellent in its proper place, but it will not hold the bottom pin long term against the shearing force of opening and closing the vent window. I do think welding could affect a good repair, but I’m with Busdaddy: it’s probably more cost effective to simply replace it. I replaced all of mine. I believe a couple of my old ones with lower pin still attached; the frames were not great. PM me if you find you can’t fix them and are looking for inexpensive used.
