Removing the CV joint from the drive shaft on a flat rock using cave man techniques:
Thanks for a great event, folks. Grateful to have gotten out of Denver for a few days to have some much-needed fun with the tribe.
It's truly summer camp for Vanagon zealots.
Special thanks to 10cent, MtnHome, ConnorsVW, and YetiDave for helping with ideas, direction, and a big wrench and a couple of washers so I could tighten my supercharger pulley (again) and get back home in one piece.
Here's my photo dump.

I had a great time again this year. My new motor and rebuilt trans w/Peloquin were just the ticket. I have done the drive into Spring Canyon almost every year, but last year and this the road is in worse shape, taking it from a moderate 2WD to almost needing a granny gear to cut down on the rougher or steeper parts. It just depends on how hard you want to flog your ride. Dave Shaffer was right behind me with an open diff.
Thanks to Johnny Maw and Dave OBryan for putting togethe another great Syncro Solstice.
It was good to see all the old friends I have made at Syncro Solstice over the years. |

Similar sentiments from a (…the???) newbie this year… it was really a thrill and a lot of fun! Everyone I met was welcoming, engaging, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent...
Kudos to Rich ^^^ “LoveMyWesty” for input, leadership and guidance on two fun rides. Yes, Friday’s run to Spring Canyon was a workout but turned out to be very doable for a 2 (…I mean…) 1WD van, as long as you’re patient, slow, careful and . . . . . . C A R E F U L!!!
Anyway, worked for me this time...
Onion Creek on Saturday was quite an easy, fun drive in comparison…but all good, clean dirty fun!

PS/FYI: By request, I’ll be sure to bring a bigger tub of pickled herring next time… _________________ 86 White Wolfsburg Westy Weekender

Had a great time as usual, the trail rides were spectacular. I had a small mechanical problem but the fix was easy. The nuts that hold the ears on the transaxle loosened up an done was gone. I had a spare nut and tightened the
other and away went.
I had recently installed an aftermarket windage tray to slow down my oil usage and I think it actually helped.
I did quite a few things in advance of this trip. Upcoming trips drive me to complete projects.
New all Aluminum Radiator
Changed out adapter plate to RJES bell housing
Re configured my SCP dash ducting, this thing blows COLD!
The road trip is a bit much with 1K each way, we took highway 50 back home, there's a reason thye call it the lonliest road.
See you all next year.

Fun times yet again. Maybe someday the kids will tolerate dirt roads so I can get back out and try some new roads. _________________ 1986 Canadian Syncro Westy TDI - 1989 Syncro Single Cab - 2001 Audi S4 - 1981 VW Caddy ABA - 1980 VW Caddy EV - 1973 VW T-181 |
