'70 Ghia lowered about 2 inches in the front via beam, not drop spindles. I was trying to decide if I needed the Porsche 356 shocks or the stock recommended shocks both by Koni.

I couldn't find any info on the samba about the stock shocks but I was able to locate the specs on another site.

Leaving it here for comparison in case anyone else crosses this road.

Koni 80-1044SP20
352 mm ->13.86"
243 mm ->9.57"

Koni 80-1787 (stock recommendation)
426mm -> 16.8"
337.82mm -> 13.3 or 10.7 (stopper removed)

I measured my existing shocks this morning at a little over 16 inches (hard to get in and under when it's on the ground). In my case I clearly can just run the stock shocks and be fine.

Currently the price difference is not much either, $144 for the shorter shocks, $135 for the stock (based on amazon comparison)..

Anyway, hope it helps someones research down the road.

I just put Koni's on the rear and look forward to the fronts arriving later this week. I have them on my 79 Westy and they're so comfortable.

I run the 1787s lowered about 1.5 to 2”.

I removed ~ ¾ inch from the shocks’ bump stops before installing. Seems to have plenty of travel with no bottomming out.

Follow up. It took a while to work things out on the front end but all 4 shocks are on now and the ride is AWESOME. Totally worth it.

Happy to but may take a bit. It's up on the quickjacks now while I sort out some of the electrical gremlins.
