Hey Y'all - Are you running nerf bars? If so what kind are you running, how'd you install them and would you do it again?

I'd love to hear what you think before I drill into the body of the baja.

Thanks all!

I made my own side rails. I really wanted them to be strong enough to stand on and used as a step for easier access to the roof rack. They also serve as a great easy jacking point along with adding protection.
I molded some square tubing along the body’s channel and welded it in place. The wall thickness of the tube is .120”
I bent some 1x.120” round tube for the railing and laser cut/dimpled the step plates out of .095” sheet.
I really like how they turned out and they’re way stronger than any off the shelf version.
I can post some detailed pics from the making of them if interested.

Those are so nice! And beyond my skills to make, but wow, check out all your details.

This is what I did

I have a 3” body lift that I have braced to so no upper bar into the body.

Didn’t think it would be strong but it is. Have had several encounters with rocks and a tree stump, and a roll over and they have held up. I put a piece of rubber mat at the door location so that I can step out with bare feet.

Currently I have a metal bucket mount for the gas can instead of just a strap

That is one great looking baja! Perfect stance, as they say.

I saw these rock rails today, and really want a set. I assume they are home made, but if not, take my money.

I have the standard ones. The most common to see. They were on there when I bought which is good because I don't think I could drill the body either.

They are just tube. It was nice when I had a roof rack. You could stand on them and reach. Also when your waxing the hood.

I don't know if I will reuse them when I over haul it. I plan to do a 3" body lift and these will probably look funny. I can make my own though. I'll make my lift strong enough to support a flat nerf with out a strap going up higher too. Then when I do the body work I can 86 those holes.
