72 bay window
When I start the bus the fuel gauge goes to almost full. I know it’s not full. Any idea where to start looking to correct it? |

| Pull the firewall between the tank and the engine compartment and unplug the sender and see what happens. If you have a hole in the rear deck you can access the wire to the sender through it. |

It can be as simple as the voltage regulator on a Late Bay (with a float and lever style sender ) coming loose from the back of the instrument cluster. That would cause it to produce 12 volts all the time and make the gauge read high as well as possibly damage the sender.
You can access the dash end of the sender wire at the gauge and check if it is shorted to chassis . Disconnect it and measure the resistance to chassis . If its lower than about 10 ohms you have a problem further back . _________________ Ancient vehicles and vessels

A 72 would have come with a tube style sender, but after 53 years who knows what's been swapped?.
Disconnecting the wire at the sender is the first step in diagnosis. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

I thought that there was a fuel gauge wire connector (male - female plug) that is on the passenger (right) side back near where the wire comes out from under the tank and goes into the frame - that it could be disconnected there without having to pull the sender. It shows on the 1972 wiring diagram as T1 right near the fuel sender. I know that my 1977 has one there. _________________
