i see that folks transfer over a small piece of plastic (Garolite) from the older alternator to the new one. I don;t have that piece on the older alternator. With the precautions I've taken (cut holes to clearance the B+ terminals) and also to cut down the posts, do I still need to put this insulator in? I dont fully understand the current path that this was trying to avoid if the posts were cut down.

folks how critical is the 'alternator sealing ring' (#30)? this is the photo I have of the 'before' i took it apart, and it seems like it was always missing (can someone confirm if its supposed to be there for a '78?). Seems like I'm also missing bolt (#47)

best photo I have of the 'before'

Kind of a silly question but I forgot how the alternator to starter wire is supposed to be routed! Can someone remind me? That cable and regulator plug are in the engine compartment - sharing single rubber grommet plug. How is that cable now supposed to be routed back to the starter?

replying to my own question, there is a port located below the Fuel Pressure sensor that will allow the cable to go through the firewall and out to the starter.

That extra blue wire is the charge warning light wire to the dashboard. Without the idiot light coming on with the key, the voltage regulator won't get the signal to start regulating voltage.

This is interesting... I've gotten lax about the sequence of my Key/Coil switch timing... thinking it didn't matter. I may have cooked my Voltage Regulator by turning off the key before turning off the Coil 'hot' while it idles.

It idles kinda high in park.. and I've had the key off, with the Coil hot (engine running) more than once. never for long.. I turn off the key then walk to the back to switch off the coil. ... because it's cool. Cool Rolling Eyes Cool
