This is totally wrong.

Once you start walking you loose your shade / protection. You can get disorientated and go the wrong direction, and a car is much easier to spot from an airplane then a person is.

Sweeping statements are hard to back up, I didn't say you should do this. I live in the desert, I know the land as most days of the week I hike or bike where I drive the baja. I could hike cross country to my house faster than I could get signal and wait for a ride.

Cheers,
-Joe

In the places I off road, I would have to walk miles just to get to a point where any help that I called could find me. Boots, water, big hat, weapon, small pack of emergency gear, small pack of survival gear, my GMRS hand held radio with throw-over-a-tree antenna and I'm good for a hike.

It sounds like you both know the rules of the desert, that's great, but many people new to the sport do not. That's when it gets scary.

I agree. The Snowbirds that come here in winter are flat out dangerous. They don't realize that just because it's not hot, doesn't mean that you're not still dehydrating fast.
