does anyone know where to buy upgraded nozzles for the AAZ?

I believe I used to see Bosio DLC coated "GTD" ones but I haven't been able to find any online.

Is anyone running upgraded nozzles in their AAZ?
Are they 2-stage? How are they?

I haven't seen a source for 'GTD nozzles' in over a decade. Unlike with the TDI engines, changing to different nozzles on the IDI engines has little effect on performance.

I would recommend talking to Giles at Performance Diesel Injection in Ontario.

As I recall from way back in the day, the GTD nozzles had a higher break pressure and delivered more fuel but it has been ages. The stock AAZ without a turbo, probably wouldn’t show much improvement. But add the turbo, a tuned turbo pump, AND the GTD injectors and you will have a difference.

thank you :)

i believe the Brickwerks "GTD" injectors are smaller than the 068 130 211H that comes on the AAZ (.175 vs .185) .. and not the same as the Bosio DLC coated "GTD" nozzles/injectors ...

i guess i should just see what the oracle Giles has to say on the subject .. as i will be running his pump soon enough ..

seems AAZ tuning is becoming a bit esoteric and its all about the mTDI/TDI these days

With good reason, IMO. The better fuel economy, better reliability, increased power, better parts availability, reduced emissions, and reduced load on the cooling system all combine to make the TDI more appealing, especially considering that with a mechanical pump on a Mk3 TDI the install is exactly the same as an AAZ install.

Yeah mTDIs are very cool. an AHU/1Z seems like it may have been a better choice than my AAZ.... i thought the AAZ would be "so easy" and "drop right in" instead of the 1.6CS, but it took me a fair amount of time to setup for 50º & install and i have even more yet to do to fit a Giles pump and get it tuned so its "good enough"... i probably should have just done a mTDI with a Giles pump and brand new Turbo on it in the first place. oh well :)

anyways, these guys seem like they may be of help and may be able to do some nice custom DLC nozzles

i reached out , we'll see ! :)

I got larger nozzles from them that I am using in my '91 automatic ALH mTDI. They've worked fine.

well, it turns out that, according to Mr Giles the Diesel Pump God, the 2-stage pintle nozzle design of the AAZ is not an issue, and the motor can be tuned to do whatever is needed at the pump....

and that, while the TDI orifice nozzles are worthy of an upgrade for more power, the AAZ nozzles are just fine as-is in combination with his pump... and the hassle of dealing with setting up a new set of 2 stage nozzles properly is only worthwhile if the existing nozzles are in poor condition.

one less thing to worry about :)
