Installed the Winterburn 6 volt CD Ignition in April and it has performed flawlessly! On cold morning the engine fires up and runs immediately; I don’t even have to help it along by blipping the throttle. It just starts and runs. Once the engine has warmed up, it purrs like a kitten. Prior to the installation the engine always sounded like it was struggling. I do notice a bit more power (after all it’s only a stock 40 horse) and the mileage is up. Can’t say real MPGs yet but instead of getting two and half weeks on a tank of gas I now get just over three weeks – same driving habits. Oh yes – and because of very good written directions, installation was a very simple and straightforward. Fred was also very forthcoming with information and guidance when it came to installation and theory of operation; and the unit even has a non-CDI setting and an off position. Won’t see that on other commercial CDIs. So, if you’re looking to keep your ignition 6 volts and want a better ignition, the Winterburn is for you. It is one of the best investments I have made for my ’63 bug yet. Give Fred a chance and he won’t disappoint you. Happy putt’n. |

just got mine for my 2nd VW build, stock 67 Bug. #39.
will be a few weeks before i get to fire up my car but i have to say i am very pleased with
1. how the CDI turned up. it will be very hard to make it better in terms of looks.
2. how it was packed up. it is definitely one of the best and how i would pack my stuffs out too. it looks like it will survive a bomb blast.
3. email correspondences with Fred is way above average. it is very hard to find someone better or so detailed.
thanks. |

finally hooked up the CDI after wainting for the car to be completed.
had some initial hiccups during wiring it up as i missed some steps, but i am impressed how the car drove with the CDI. i cant explain how it worked as i am not good with electronics, but before hooking it up, my ignition system is relatively fresh, almost new everything. it just felt a lot more responsive.
great stuff |

Great transaction with Fred. Wish I could say I have installed it, but have not yet. I have no doubt based on responses and service that if there is an issue Fred will do what he can to make it right. Great to have people like this in the hobby. Thanks KS for a great looking product and all of the information Fred! |

No longer advertising on the Samba. Thank-you to those that have found and enjoyed using the CDI through the Samba ad. Also thank-you to the Samba for allowing me to advertise here. If anyone does want a Winterburn CDI, just google it and you will find my website with the contact information. From now on I will not be participating on this forum. The very best to all of you. Adios!

I know Fred isn't advertising on here anymore, but I think there's still a fair bit of interest in his CDI ignition from Samba users. I just installed mine and the experience has been great. _________________ 74 Super

I received my 6 volt unit (#380) today, hope to install it soon. Great communication with Fred on the ins and outs of the system, and shipping time was one week to CZ. It helped that he had a 6 volt partalready made and ready to go... |
