The threads in the head are stripped for the spark plug. It blew the plug out last night on the way home.

Is there any fixes WITHOUT taking the motor out and rebuilding the head?

Thanks

I repaired one on an air-cooled without removing the engine. I used a kit like this:

http://www.amazon.com/CTA-14MM-Spark-Plug-Repair/dp/B002MARBDA

I put that piston near bottom dead center and cranked over the engine a few times without the plug installed in order to blow out any metal shaving from cutting the threads.

I’ve seen many post about repairing spark plug threads with motor in car. And I myself have done it. Of coarse best way is to remove motor and head.
But if you must do it. I learned from an old air cooled vw specialist. Factory trained. And 50 years into the game. I learned a step from him I never heard of that can’t hurt. Non of us want any shavings left to digest in the motor. .
We all have heard about bearing grease in drill bit and tap. To hopefully catch shavings. He showed me how he would open exhaust valve in the cylinder your working on. And hooked a shop vac to exhaust to help suck any loosee debris. Out of cylinder. Can’t hurt. Also a lot of people talk of insert coming out with the plug. And by using a punch to set the new threads into aluminum head usually works well in keeping insert in the head. I’ve followed his procedure doing repairs in car. And never had a problem.

There is a lot of room within the van engine bay to work, so it be easy to do this repair insitu
