Nothing fancy, no Lithium. Just a plain-old good service battery that fits in the regular under-the-back-seat location.

Group size 96r fits nicely. I don’t know which brand is best but make sure to cover the positive terminal. 96r batteries have slots to snap in a cover over the positive terminal but not all of them come with one. |

An AGM is unnecessary for an old bug; a regular flooded lead is sufficient IMO. And, yeah, a group 96 or 42.
