I need some wisdom.
I bought a tubed lowing kit from WagonsWest for my 62 Doka... The rear lower shock mount on the new hub plate is directly under the axle making it impossible to mount the shock in the stock mounting position. I've bought new upper mounting brackets and in tend to mount them further rearward and on their side to allow for free movement. With some reinforcement plates to give them strength under load. See pics.
I've done a quick search in the forums and don't see any info about relocating rear shocks on a transporter... Only for a bug and for off-road applications.
Has anyone had experience with this and is it safe to do this?
TIA!

My spring plates didn't have shock mounts. This is the best place for mounting the bottom of the shock and keeping the stock upper mount.
I got the shock mounts from Wide Five, LLC _________________ 67 Bug

i did an IRS conversion on my bus and bought upper shock mounts from Creative Engineering (UK)
Rear hubs are from a bay window so thats where the shock mounts to on the lower side

Thanks, Yannvanh. That's reassuring. What a cool product! I wish I had heard of those before I bought standard mounts.... dang it! At least I now know that position is doable.
Cheers! _________________ Buying things on the internet... Sports.

Found a pic from their website how to mount them (it's been a while on my bus)
They also had a different style of shock mount.
Good luck! _________________ '66 vw splitbus project:

Great information. I looked on their site and they didn't have any rear suspension products at all anymore. Infact, they have very little products. Could they be liquidating their inventory??
Anyone know an outfit that makes a similar shock mount for that location?
If you also have a pre-67 double cab that's even better. _________________ Buying things on the internet... Sports.

Shouldn’t be hard to fab this for a few bucks in metal. _________________ Looking for anything from Hal Casey Motors out of Hamburg New York, from license plate surrounds to matchbooks.

Tell me more about having the shocks at the right angle. This is what concerns me most. Where I have the bracket in the Pic above is the steepest angle I can get with the shock clearing the axle. For the life of me, I don't know why the mount on the swing arm is directly below the hub... but it is what it is, right? _________________ Buying things on the internet... Sports.
